Arkion's Self-Improvement Thread

Hello!

I'm trying to become a better miniature painter. I think I do good tabletop work, but I've hit a wall with my self-taught techniques and, unless I can focus and improve my technique, I'll never move on to competition painting (even though I know it will take a good deal of time, that's where I really want to be!) So, please, help me out? I'd love any insight into how I can redo, improve, or correct my techniques.

I've started a blogspot blog for this very purpose, too: http://www.chargingbadger.blogspot.com.

Thank you in advance! I'll keep posting my progress; I know I have a lot to improve upon, but look forward to the journey of becoming a better artist.

Welcome! You are in the right place for advice. To me what I see first and foremost is that you seem to rely heavily on washes a la the GW: bascoat - wash liberally - drybrush and edge highlight method. That is great for table top jobs, but the first thing to focus on is getting more selective and controlled with the washes. Your demon in the middle there is nice. Good level of contrast and clean work - aim for more like that :)

Thanks Zab! I've picked out a piece with the intention of painting it with attention to that kind of detail. I'll post some progress pics as it gets closer to finished. :)
