If it\'s yellow you want then I suggest:
Golden Yellow+snakebite Leather for the base. Then blend those up to pure Golden yellow. Mix the Golden Yellow with sunburst Yellow, up to Sunburst Yellow, and the same step with Sunburst to bad moon Yellow.
To highlight edges etc... Use a Bad Moon Yellow and Skull White mix to your liking.

Hope this helps a bit, I know its a bit obvious but i get cracking results, although it does take patience and time ;)

ah nice idea, instead of shading down you go from a deeper basecoat, which I guess means your yellows automatically sit nicer! :D

I\'ll try it! damn, but I re-prirmed my SM to black hehe! I\'ve got 5 or so left though so I\'ll build em up and spray em white and try,

thanks!

Quick SM to test my colour scheme out, I think it works well, black highlighting is bad here and the eagle is poor, but hopefully the next one will be cleaner!

Shoulder pads are crying out for freehand too, eek never tried any freehand! :D

Any feedback?

What colors would you use in the freehand on the shoulder pads? My two cents is that I like the purple/black tone, but mixed with everything else it becomes a little too \"cool\" overall, and loses some visual impact.

I really like that blue chaos warrior. He\'s pretty striking.

thanks for the feedback,

Right shoulder pad is gonna change and the eagle emblem is gonna get toned down and shaded more gradually.

If was going to do free hand it would have to be black, or black over a red circle perhaps?

The blue chaos warrior I was really suprised with how that came out, it only took a few hours, but I\'m going to paint the remainder of the unit in those colours!

Thanks, man. I\'m a new painter and learning slowly just like yourself!

I practiced painting more yellow and the key is, as many people said, is to keep the paint thin and use lots of layers.

One thing I learnt is to allow the previous coat to fully dry. I found this out with the shoulder pads on the purple marines, and if you dont let it dry, you get visable lumps nd brushstrokes! no!!!

Keep working man!

Yellow! Argh! Quit saying the \"Y\" word!

Just kidding. ^_^

A red circle as a background may help add some \"pop\" to the overall fig. Of course, it\'ll also look quite different depending on how you base it. It might still be a little too much on the \"cool\" side of tones, but I\'m not a world thinker on color technique or anything. Heh.

no need, you can still do it from black. You can do it with all your colors not just yellow

new eldar rangers are some lovely figures, I just started this one - blocking in the basic colour. I\'m really unhappy with the yellow; very uneven...still not sure how to get a flat yellow! :)

\"finished\" ranger. I got quite depressed with my painting during this figure and decided to finish it up quick... lighter colours are hard to lay smoothly huh?

The heat here isn\'t helping, within 3/4 minutes my paints are getting very very thick/dry on my wet palette.. quite annoying and have to work faster... It\'s not bad but I hope the next one is better. Base is awful (see above :))

ive found the best way to paint yellow is too first paint the area in mithril silver, and then paint with golden yellow over the top. Thin the yellow quite a bit, and it will only take you about 3 coats and you will get a smooth yellow that is nice and vibrant

Ranger #2 - I\'m happy with this one, skin looks ok, the armour is pretty good, purples are coming out nicely..

Thanks! Actually the clock is only basecoated right now...

How on earth do I darken browns!? I tried adding black to the tone (Graveyard Earth) and it went a horrible dark green? :( Any ideas?

Highlights are fine (Desert Yellow / Bleached Bone)

I plan to do the same pattern as my previously, but slightly rushed effort:

I\'m really gonna take my time this time, try to get a higher score (7+).

Hmm... darkening Graveyard Earth... Experiment with very small amounts of black. You could wash the recesses with pure black, then when they\'re dry layer thin coats of GE over the black.

If you really can\'t get that to work (it happens), add a darker tone thean GE but not black. I don\'t think there is a darker brown tone, so try a very dark blue like midnight blue.

Yellow

I have done a LOT of work with yellow.
My space marines are yellow and blue.

So, what I\'ve found works best is to paint the whole surface Vermin Brown (I think that\'s what it\'s called) then highlight with a mixture of Bleached Bone and Yellow Ink.
Actually, that\'s it.
You can go brighter by adding in various yellows. My favorite yellow highlight is Apple Barrel\'s \"Pineapple.\" In the end you do your final highlight bleached bone or possibly white, then glaze the whole thing with more yellow ink.
