Armor of Souls

So has anybody seen the \"Armor of Souls\" effect on this one past French Golden
Daemon award? Instead of painting the armor flat red (It was a champion of khorne
on a jugger), he painted it with faces all over, like it was the champions victims
screaming to get out. Currently, I am painting a whole (plastic) squad of them
but my question to you is why is no one else trying this? Or, if you have, what else
could it be used for. Mabye smiling, insunutating faces of Slannesh? Oh, and one
more thing, how do I prevent the paint from being to \"glopy\"? I have this problem
with red now, and I watered it down but haven\'t used it again yet.;)

Gloppy Paint = Sloppy Souls

:flip:Thinning your paints out with water is *absolutely* essential to any neat, clean, well-painted miniature! Best if you adjust it\'s consistency each time you pigment the brush.

I, too, like the \"soul-sucker\" look; Here\'s the method I would reccomend:

Paint the armor with a (thinned) deep red color, like Citadel \"Scab Red,\" possibly applying two thin coats instead of one thick \"gloppy\" one.

Next, pick out little ovals and circles in it with a black pen, defining individual heads.

Add basic facial features: maybe just mouths and little circles for the eyes. Your souls will look more \"tormented\" if you draw the faces long, like teardrops, with the eyes and mouth similar in shape.

Give the whole area a thin black wash for some shading.

Now start to add highlights with red, orange, or yellow, depending on your preference. I tend to go straight to a strong hihglight here, and then touch up with moderate tones to blend the whole thing together.
Remember to keep the paints thin! Thick paints will quickly pile up and look gummy. You want to keep this process as thin and clean as possible.

Anybody else have other ideas?

Good luck, and be sure to show us your results when it\'s done!!

well tammy didi an article in harbinger with faces drawn all over a dreadnout and it was done in red so you could check that out. I\'m not to much of a fan of having face painted all over an armour but that\'s just personnel taste :p

I didn\'t do just that, but the idea of the jugger with paces was something i did years ago, it was published in the 40k chaos codex. I like the idea of adding surface detailing, but in the end, it is a bit gimmicky to be honest, and lately, i\'m more into doing solid, realistic looking paintjobs...**she says while looking at the hordes of half finishes NMM pieces on her desk ;)**
