some of you may have seen this on the news page, but i figured id post it here too as some people may skip the news page and come right here.

Necromancer Graphix, is having its first ever contest! this contest is a simple art contest. the 2 catagories are sci fi and fantasy. simply draw out a character and submit it it\'s that easy! now your prolly asking yourselfe. what\'s in it for me? well il\'l tell ya. the winner of each catagory gets their sketch turned into a model and receives a free copy! these models will be the first minis Necromancer Graphix will ever produce, and you have the chance to be the creator of it! for full rules and all the information you need to know about the contest travel on over to http://necromancergraphix.moonfruit.com/ then simply click the contest link on the nav bar.

I guess the question is who does the voting.
If the viewers vote, then do the biggest, coolest thing and you get a more valuable prize.

Also, painted to their highest standard? How high is that? Do we have anything to go by?

i like the idea but they have no examples of there sculpting ability on there website, i still might create a master piece,

Looks like a good way to get a load of free concept art off the unsuspecting masses to me! Yes, I\'m a naturally suspicious sort, but the terms and conditions about ownership of the ideas and the comp in general are very vague so they don\'t put my doubts to rest. Perhaps these could do with a bit more detail adding.

To be honest it doesn\'t sound like a very good deal for the ones joining and winning. Like said before the terms are very unclear and I would personaly not concider entering if I didn\'t know about rights of the concepts on forehand.

The price itself while sounding nice isn\'t that big either. It does give the company in the end cheap concepts and a choice of them too (depending on how many get entered and the quality). Well i can imagine for someone who likes sketching something just for fun it could be a nice side project. Or a mini enthousiast with some nice ideas to scribble down and otherwise having no way to see their idea become pewter. Might well be these people they are aiming for. A comp like this is nice for that. And noone tell you you have to enter.

But for me for instance who does commision work including concept work it\'s simply not worth it. One (or actually 1-3) cast of the produced miniature is something that\'s standard for me with commisions. And i get payed then too. I can see a big well known company getting high quality concepts this way with just the thing produced and one cast as price. I would for instance try for a Rackham concept with this as a price. But then there is the prestege and general personal advertisement by being linked to a well know company for the artist. As well as knowing a high quality figure will be made. This company, while I assume meaning well, can\'t offer that yet as they haven\'t produced a figure yet and haven\'t made name for themselves yet either.

single characters only (its in there) also we do have a gallery to see painted figures.

as for Bignastyshark\'s comment we do not have any models skulpted yet hence why we cant show eny examples, we ourselves are also not doing the skulpting and are hiring people to skulpt them for us

We are a fresh new startup created by a group of cmon members. We are currently doing commissions under the NG name and are looking to expand into producing a line of miniatures. this is the first step along that path. we thought it would be a fun contest and give some people who wouldn\'t normally have the chance to have a minature made, to have one. We\'re not here to rip people off, gather a horde of concepts or anything else insinuated in this thread. we are just a group of friends trying to turn this hobby into something a bit more.

Okay, if Anthony is painting it to his highest standard, that makes the prize a bit more of a temptation.

And hey, it\'s a new company and I think good artists should encourage the development of new compaines, even if they would get paid more for designing for the establishment.

well one way or another. The artists that find this worth their while regardless on their skill (stickmen drawers with brilliant ideas to famous concept artist with full illustration art) will join. Those who don\'t think so or rather spend their time elsewhere will do that. So it will all sort itself out. it\'s not that people joining don\'t know the company is new and know what the price will be. I do suggest being more clear on exactly what is gonna happen with the concepts in the competition, concerning rights, Ip and all that to avoid problems afterwards.

Well said.

I remember sitting around with friends thinking \"We should make a boardgame\" or \"Lets design our own minis\" or \"Let\'s werite an RPG\". It\'s cool to see someone actually taking it that next step.

I see this as a contest for an unknown to potentially become known, and that\'s pretty cool.

Definatly well said. I see no problem with it this way. Like I said before. The persons the competition is aimed at might be just fellow mini enthousiasts. Getting something nice together.

Im kind of with Cindy when I see these contests popping up more and more.. I wonder exactly what is the catch. It clearly is a clever and cheap way for a upcoming company to get cheap if not free concept art or in the case of Black Ork Games (I think thats whos constantly running the art contests) is it getting finished art for next to nothing.

As someone whos trying to put his own miniature range together, after all Ive been sculpting professionally for 15 plus years for others I find my own concepts suck LOL and I guess maybe I should try this approach..

You are trying to do something fun to get interest for your startup, that\'s fair enough. The point still stands that the T&C of your competition are very vague though, and you could do with sorting them out. You saying it isn\'t to gather a horde of concepts here is all well and good, but until something goes into the T&C of the competition itself clarifying that then suspicion has to be expected. I\'m not really having a go, if people want to enter they will enter, and the prize is cool, but I think that the comp could do with some more thought putting into it.
