If you want to clean a plastic palette, spray it with Simple Green and let it soak a few hours. Will be very clean afterwards.

I've tried storing paints in a pallet by covering them with a dampened paper towel and placing them in a plastic bag. But the towel eventually falls into the paint and makes a big mess. I finally gave up and threw out my cheap plastic pallets.

Lately, I've been using an old Chinese food lid layered with paper towels and topped with a sheet of parchment. This wet pallet (described in another article) works great - paints don't dry out. I put another old lid on top (could use the DISH as a pallet, but they all went to feed the cats) and put the whole thing in a baggie when I'm not painting.

If you use good brushes, you can use much bigger brushes than what's indicated here. I use Windsor & Newton Series 7, size 0 for most stuff, size 000 (aka 3/0) for fine detail. The reason is that a high quality brush will hold a very fine point, and will also keep a fair amount of paint in the brush so you don't have to constantly re-dip every 2 seconds.

Good tips for beginners.

As far as palettes go, I use the disposable plastic trays from two treats: Mochi ice cream, and mini Creme Eggs. The Mochi trays are great for mixing inks and/or any large quantities of paint, and the Creme Egg trays are good for smaller mixes. There's lots of flat areas on both for little dabs of paint.

The Creme Egg trays I especially like, because they come with a snap-on plastic cover that can extend the life of any paint left in them by at least several hours.

I cant aply basecoat on Space Marine shoulderpad with a 2/0 brush, its way too small. Pretty good article.

very good for the baisics, and covers some things (like the position of light) that I hadnt figgured. Cheers.

Also, I use the cheap paint pots that are linked together with plastic as both pallettes, and holding all my custom mixed paints (all my paints need to be watered down for me to paint right) They are cheap, and they keep forever, and when you wnat to clean one of th epots out, wash it out and fill it with simple green and let is sit for a day.
