I saw them at the convention today. There was some very nice stuff there. I'll be interested to see what they look like on film. In the past, I have noticed a marked difference.
I too was at the convention and studied many of the miniatures closely. There were certain ones I wanted to make sure I considered voting on tonight online, but...
There is a big difference. Some of the figures, which I saw were very highly detailed, are blurry. Some have shots from multiple angles, and some do not.
The multiple shot issue is most telling in the squads. Some of the squads appear to be "featured" in the photography, as there are multiple shots both of the whole squad and individual figures within. Other squads have only a far shot, which does not do the squads justice.
Because of this, I do not feel it is fair to vote on them via the website at all. Certainly there are those I remember from the show that popped out at me, but I'm sure there were others I didn't get a chance to study at all because of the crowd, the placement (I have a bad back, hard to kneel down to look at the lower ones).
Now I understand that many people who are voting did not see the figures for themselves, and it doesn't seem fair to me that some have more shots versus those who should have close ups and don't, and especially the few that are blurred. I'd say, retake some shots, or take a few more, but I saw how hard those guys and girl (volunteers?) were working today, and they deserve a good night's sleep!

Yeah, the photos are generally a bit deceptive. Some things look better, some worse. Sometimes they look blended more thoroughly in the pics. In one notable case, the picture looked a bit blotchy whereas the mini itself was probably the best I saw there. It's definitely a separate thing to photo a mini. GW stuff from their own pics is a good example of that.

I have to agree with Zarovich. Some entries are clearly favorised in this competition and have multiple and detail shots. If this competition was fair all entries would recive the same ammount of photos. Very unprofesional...

While it's definitely a step up from last year's debacle...it's a shame there has to be any concerns about photography/fairness/favoritism. The prize has got to be one of the largest, if not THE largest cash prize of any public event throughout the year. For such a prize to be on the line, the methods of judging should be flawless, and that is clearly not the case with this competition. Matter of fact, I hear more criticism about this competition than nearly any other.
I get that CMON hosts the competition, and as such, they want the voting to remain in the spirit of what CMON has built itself on - public voting via the internet. The problem with that - it is SO easy to manipulate the voting on CMON. That is the biggest criticism of the site. There are obvious signs of favoritism with certain artists, companies. People pad their own votes to give a better score. Basically - while it is a great idea in concept...in reality, it is far from a fair and accurate system. Considering the Crystal Brush has as large a prize as it does, it's a shame the competition relies on a system that is so far from ideal to determine the winner of one of the industries biggest prizes.

I think CMoN is doing a great job. Likes most things in life it's not perfect but it's much better than most if not all. My only difficulty came when I tried to vote. I voted on maybe four entries then the site would not allow me to vote anymore? Don't understand what the problem was or if it was only me that had this difficulty. I was disappointed that I couldn't vote on more but shit happens. I do like that this contest totally blows the Golden Demons out of the water but hey that's just my opinion and like a$€holes everyone has one. This is still the biggest contest there is for the miniature artist, not just one companies miniatures but all miniatures. This contest will become the best, toughest, and most highly respected because it's about the artist work not the brand of product. As far as I'm concerned "Great job CMoN"!

Congratulations to all the winners! I'm very happy that the three I picked out as my personal favorites took the top three spots this year, in basically the same order. (I was, and am, undecided between Sebastian's Alice and Diego's Minotyarry.)
Is the gallery from last year archived somewhere, or at least the winners? This year's gallery seems to have replaced it, but an archive of past winners would be nice.
