Overall OK article, though not really revolutionary or in-depth. One question: do you let the leaves dry before you start using them? Or do you use them while still fresh? In the second case, I am wondering if it wouldn't start rotting after some time. But, as the last picture shows, it does look quite good.

I didn't let them dry before putting leaves to bases.
It would be clever to use some varnish(to stop rotting) when you have glued the leaves.

I disagree with Tony M, I think it looks fine. The colours are obviously very natural! Perhaps it could have been ground some more to be viewed at that close a distance but short of having tiny perfectly-formed painted leaves (proper leaf litter is not cheap), this would be the next best thing! I have used "Italian seasoning" for a similar effect, though it is more green. I had not thought of grinding real fall leaves in a mortar!

I think that use real leaves is a good idea, I agree with No Such Agency about the natural color...
I will try to use this method for my wood ellves bases

I've done similar bases using dried fall leaves. Stick them in a zip lock baggie and crush them to tiny bits. Sorted in the baggies by color: yellow, reds, oranges & browns. Don't use a wash to try to darken the areas under the leaves (a bit of a hard lesson).

kick ass! save me the time to think and wandering around the neighborhood for stuff...xD
this probably save me some $ from buying static grass ans such too.
