(What materials did you use, in what order did you do things, etc.)

I like it , simple but effective , I'll have to give it a go . How did the PVA not run down the sides ? a steady hand no doubt . I wonder if painting the first layer will also add to the effect . Must try soon . Nice one

The base on the first picture looks better than the still water in the last picture. you don't explain how you made the water look like it has movement as in the assassin base.

Great article. I tried it myself after reading it... turns out my supposedly clear-setting PVA glue wasn't so clear-setting after all, well now I've got a good looking snow-base

Lordofthepit, If you have problems with the PVA not drying clear, you probably need to put it on thinner, and maybe do a few more layers... I find PVA dries milky if the layers are too thick.

Painting some of the water movement marks on the second-to-last layer would help show turbulance in/under the water.

I like the idea. I've been using gloss gel medium. Maybe the waves would be more realistic if you ran the tip of a toothpick where you want the ripples as the glue is drying. Then depending on how fast you want the water to look, you would just have to pain the peaks of the ripples

one of the best things i have used is woodland scenics water effects just for this... easy to use and can be use to detail waves etc

Not as good as the specfic water effects stuff, but nice and cheap!

PVA can also be mixed with citadel paints to give a tint to the water (Such as a scummy green or bright green toxic waste)

Pic 4 looks more complete than the latter photo - overkill I think. Should have left it mate! Less is more sometimes - v. informative article though, especially 4 the beginner.
