@cedric - coming along nicely (albeit too slowly for my liking!! - of course i cant talk!)

@wyrmling. looks brilliant. especially the patchy skin over the ribs. and that frankenstein model i fuggin brilliant. i hate to sound over the top but in my opinion, possibly the best sculpt i have seen. any more details? ie if it\'ll be sold and if so where?!

Slowly but surely, here\'s the green guy getting beefed up a bit :

Next steps will be the leather straps on his chest and the armor plates on his arms.

Lately I\'ve been thinking of adding a bit of character to the buste by giving him a dragon cape and having the dragon head come over his right shoulder. Yes/no?

dragon cape sounds cool (mind you, i just want to see you sculpt a dragon\'s head) you must really hate doing chainmail by now!!

Chainmail is OK; you can pop in a DVD and do the chainmail while watching the movie occasionaly. Chains on the other side are a bloody nightmare :p.

Woah...that\'s some serious fine detail, green stuff. Looking really good! What tool are you using to get such precice lines and shapes (ie. straps, studs, skull, etc.)? You sculptors who can make GS behave like that are truly insanely good...what inspiration! ;)

@wyrmlingx : I do my general shaping with GW\'s sculpting tool (I guess you can find it elsewhere, but that\'s the only location I could find). Smoothing is done with a >> shaper <<. Fine details are done with a home made tool that has a bent needle. Chainmail is done with a dull-end dentist tool. Studs are done with an empty mechanical pencil. I learned most of these things on Ming-Hua\'s Yahoo >> sculpting list <<.

The next step will consist in adding leather straps and details to the plates as well as doing the elbow guards. After that, I think I\'ll work on the helmet and then will end with cape.

Looking good there.

I spotted your note about mechanical pencils for rivets.
I heard this but didnt want to spend on the pencil so I got some hyperdermic needles off ebay and use them instead. Just pull the needle out the plastic and reverse it to put the point inward and flat end of the tube out. Differing sizes to and they are real cheap.

Why didnt I think of this. Ive had a heap of these lying around for ages (for perscription use only ,,,,, honest) I will give it a try.

Are those needles the same as dispensing needles? I\'ve heard they should be good for bolts, rivets a.s.o. But I can\'t seem to find anyone who sells them in quantities less than a thousand or so pieces :(

I thought I\'d give you another update on the Karl Franz sculpt..

about the needles. i might be able to get my hands on some, they wont have the syringe connecting plastic part though, and they will be sterile and unused. i`ll ask around (i work in a tattoo/piercing studio) to see if we can get smaller sizes than 1.2mm from where we buy ours.

im also starting some sketches for the heresy competition, ive only sculpted small models before so this will be fun.

Ive started some concepts myself.

Remember its a comp where you keep your sculpts hidden.

Its best if the needles have the plastic bit. It protects you from the point when turned around.
Blob of putty would sort it out though.

the needles we use come with a protective sheath covering the sharp part, its made from some kind of rubber tubing and is about 1.5-2mm thick.
