well as every 1 knows i love tyranids and as some know ive been wanting to do a tutorial and or a forum step by step so here it is.... i will do the forum step by step here and will do the article shortly after. all those interested simply let me know then wel\'l get things started... principles work on tyranids, scales and other such items so feel free to join in with eny model that has scales (or tyranid model of course)

well first things first... get you mini cleaned up and assembled. depending on the size you may wish to flock the base before gluing the mini to it. if it is a larger base such as a tyranid warrior or dreadnaught base, i would sudgest flocking before glueing model to base.

after this is finished, prime the model. i prefer to use gray as it is a nuetral colour and works bell with light and dark tones. i then simply applied a basecoat of volcano brown to all bone parts and olive green to all skin parts.

after the base coat and inking i began highlighting the bone.. i did this by mixing some brionzed flesh with volcano brown then using strait bronzed flesh. the key to this part however is making sure you have a pointy tip on your brush

you want to put your first shade striped most of the way to where the 2 plats meet then as you add more highlights move back to where the plate ends as shown here.

after doing this your minis will look something like this....

use what ever colours you like im just telling you the colours i used.. just remember same tecniques still apply.. for mid tone you want to mix your darker and lighter colour then move up to your lighter colour as shown above.

after highlighting the armour i began highlighting the skin... simply brush your lightest skin colour overtop the raised areas.

after that dries you then want to make a medium shade.. simply mix your lightest colour and darkest skin colour until you find a shade very close to the middle. you then want to water this down almost to an ink wash. then brush it over the line where the light shade and dark shade meet. this should eliminate that line and blend everything in without leavin any lines at all for a nice smooth blend!
