Article: Using Glazes and Underpainting

Thank you for taking the time to write this up! I had already checked out the technique on Elouchard's site and have experimented with it some and I've been curious about uses for the Vallejo glazes for awhile now. Very clear and well written.

I was actually a bit surprised not to see this type of technique mentioned more often, as it's such a popular method in Armor and Aircraft modelling. Though in those areas it's called "Pre-Shading". Perhaps I should snap some photos on a couple Space Marine vehicles as I work on them to add a few more twists to the technique.

This is exactly the technique I've been using recently. I actually like using a colored ink for the underpainting, as it gives a richer tone. Using the complement of a color gives deeper, more natural shadows.

I ussually start with a black undercoat then apply white primer(or grey then white) from the top in an "airbush like fashion.
Also i prefer using Val Glazes rather then inks for the intial wash
