lol

Evil Dave,

Thats exactly what I\'m trting to avoid!!

Database schema tables are bad enough as it is, let alone trying to fix 600 odd pages of it! I\'m not a secretary, never have been. Or a technical writer. Just writing manuals is driving me insane let alone this rubbish on top of it!

I think I know why you have your name now :D

Na, nuffing like that

Its just the original doc has a template embedded. I\'ve tried applying a new template with the template and add-ins option, but it didn\'t remove the old one.

Just opening the doc is a pain in the bum, no word document should ever be 19meg!

Is there any chance you can delegate? Failing that..just say you can\'t do it as it needs a MS expert....just thinking aloud...

There is no problem so great...that it cannot be run away from...:D

Okay okay...

...what i was trying to say is, I don\'t think you can change a template on a document without cutting and pasting the text into a new file...

Damn...Damn.....Damn......

I didn\'t want anyone to say that....didn\'t i mention that :(

I\'m gonna have to plead ignorance and see if one of my colleagues who know Word really well will work on it :D

BTW, Thank you everyone for trying to sort this out for me, its very much appreciated - give yourselves a pat on the back and a biccie :)

Feminine wiles....Hmmmm.

I work with all women bar one. He knows about as much about MS Office as I do!

Not the tack that I think will work this time....I reckon bribery with chocolate might though

Fizl, don\'t sweat so much! According to some quick Googling, it is possible to change which template is attached to a given .doc file. This sounds like it might have some useful links for ya:

http://www.addbalance.com/usersguide/templates.htm

I haven\'t done much with Word for a couple of years, ever since I moved to Linux, and I\'ve never had to deal with switching a template, so I can\'t give you any direct advice. Well, other than a 19mb .doc file is insane, and that it would likely be about a 1/3 of that if you used Open Office... ;)

Shaz:
After a quick look at the Link Valander has given, that might help.

One thing you didn\'t say was what version of Office you were trying to work on?

I\'d suggest that you ignore the \'suggestions\' on alternate machine/software as you & I both know corporate changes away from Microsoft & PC\'s in the UK just don\'t happen.

My primary suggestion is that you get hold of the person who wrote it in the first place and tell them to break it down into manageable sections. 19Mb is a stupid and dangerous size for any file!

Just opening that on a laptop must seriously strain the memory capacity and is therefore asking for file loss, through system failure due to loss of available memory. Add to it the amount of memory that Word hogs up when processing any file and there is at least 60% of available caching gone.
One slight power hiccup and you\'re knackered. (I\'d use a more graphic term but you know what I mean!)

I take it you\'re in Warrington again.?

DR - Complete shock here....got to work from home this week! Just have to go to Birmingham for a meeting on friday. I tell ya, even though I\'m working, it feels like I have a week off!

Just looking at the link now, I hope it will help....

fingers crossed

Shaz

Edit: already tried what it suggested, but it didn\'t pull over everything I needed unfortunately (Or remove the writing from the old template i.e the embedded images etc)

Thanks though
