Ashen Flesh

Hello wonderful peoples of CMON!

I see two other threads on skin in the forum, but hope that a third is not too redundant.

I need some tips on painting ashen flesh. I got me a special edition Witch Hunter Inquisitor & the only little bit of flesh on the whole model--on his face--I wanted to give a more tired, aged, ragged, and unhealthy appearance.

Now, I\'m not sure wht sorts of colors I might want to mix & match to accomplish this, any suggestions?

If you look at my avatar you\'ll see an example of an ashen face colour. I painted that by using a mix of pale/palid flesh and a little bit of a mid grey as base coat. I shaded it by giving it a few careful washes with a dark redish brown. Highlighting was done by adding white to the base colour. Finally I gave the face a glaze of VMC Azure. If you don\'t have access to that it\'s a light blue with some violet in it. That glaze should be very subtle so that you won\'t see the actual colour anywhere but the tone of the other colours will become more ashen. Hope that is helpful to you! :)

*edit* his face looks even more ashen in real life...

What paints do you have beh? Generally you want a greyish colour and there are lots of ways of getting this - just adding touches of light blue to basic fleshtones works well (green or darker blues for darker flesh mixes) but you can simply add in a little grey, depends on the exact colour you\'re aiming for.

Lots of paint!

I have a pretty wide variety of paint, but none of it is mini specific, so I dunno\' if listing the names of colours would be helpful.

But, I\'m going to take the suggestions & the colours I have, and experiment on a few zombie heads, then I\'ll know which ones will work good.

Thanks Ritual & Einion!

If you\'re really looking for a tired grey skintone, try using Vallejos Burnt Umber as a basecoat and add Basic skintone to it for each layer of highlighting, i dont have any pictures of it unfourtunatly but i can guarentee it looks unholily grim, especially if you finish with a couple of glazes of purple and even green in selective places
