it took bloody ages and they are still not that good.

Did you use the manual functions? Another thing you should try to avoid is shooting towards a pure white background. Even if you use manual settings many cameras become a bit confused and you loose both details and how accurate the colors are. Especially true for dark miniatures. Optimal for colors is 18% grey. But anywhere close is of course better.. I\'d actually prefer shooting against a black background in this case (for presentation) as long as you have white in front an on the sides of the mini that removes glares. Okay very schetchy explanation.. but I hope I get my point across. :p

no prob. Shame that you allready did all that..! :D

As for the miniature I thinks it really cool and moody. Some of the highlights appear a bit chalky but the rest is fine. I\'ll probably be doing an assassin myself in the near future. And this is what I want it to look like. :)

what process do you recomend for the photos?

i use a nikon coolpix 7600.
after taking the photos using a light tent and daylight strip light i then use nero to sort out the brightness and contrast.

then i quickly tweek it with the light history.

mike (dragonsreach) got me this far, i.e. my photos aren\'t gigantic blobs of glare anymore.
but i still can\'t get the minis looking quite as good as real life. (i do check them with a magnifying glass whilst painting to make shure the blends are smooth.)

if you could advise me on where i am going wrong i would be greatfull.

I like it! A little boring, but I think that is the subject more than your painting (which is very good), you couldnt exactly paint it pink or something :D .

I just used automatic levels on photoshop and put a little more light.
For my pictures, with a coolpix 3500, I use no external light but just ambiant sunlight of my living room.
And then automatic levels (I\'m not sure it\'s the good english word for it...), and it\'s enough to get something like this :

do you mind if i ask how you did the cloak? i was thinking of doing something similar for a mini of mine.

black+intermediate blue (making sure it\'s an off black)

add intermediate blue for the next couple of layers.

then add silver grey to the mix to finish the highlights.

a couple of black glazes to tone it down.

touch up highlights and add coss hatching and holes for a nice weathered material effect.

then add shading to accentuate the highlights.

quick and simple realy :)
