\"I don\'t know that atheists should be considered as citizens, nor should they be considered patriots. This is one nation under God.\"
- George W. Bush.
That\'s funny when you know that the \"under God\" part was added by President Eisenhower in 1954; kind of far in time from the founding fathers ... the original patriots ;).

What about Buddhists and Sikhs, Mr Bush? Taoists? Shinto? He doesn\'t half alienate folk does he lol

What about them Krishna dudes? They are tolerant to the extreme, bless them.

Treide: Can\'t help but flag this up...

I think his name is Morgan Spurlock. I thought that he did a good job with \"Super Size Me\", and so far the \"30 Days\" show has been interesting as well. I think he tends to have a liberal \"Michael Moore\" slant, but the Minuteman/illegal immigrant episode was actually fairly balanced.

...I get worried when people start considering \'liberal\' as something intrinsically wrong, or at least a little bit wacky and not worth the attention. Poor form :) Tolerance!

:wow: makes me feel sooooooo warm and fuzzy and loved. beware Mr Bush I do vote!!!
Isn\'t it nice that in that statement Mr Bush also manages to alienate the Native American belief systems, which to my limited understanding hold values close to the precepts of Wicca.
If I\'m not mistaken, don\'t the US armed forces recognise Scientology as a religion, which really makes sense to me.

I\'m fortunate enough like so many others to be an atheist. That doesn\'t preclude me from from having friends and colleagues who are Christian, Jewish, Muslim, Hindu, Sikh, Wiccan & Pagan.

I hold that having a faith is a personal thing and a right no matter what the flavour is. I may not agree with your faith system but I\'ll defend your right to it as long as I can.

I know that this thread is sort of slanted towards an Anti-American viewpoint at the moment, but we in the UK have our Blinkered Christian viewpoint protaganists as well. (Ian Paisley anyone? You can have him for nothing, in fact there are several of my friends who would pay people to take him. Mostly Ex-Servicemen).

Long live the Bailey meister!
As isn\'t in principle the \"Jedi\" concept really just a simplification of the precepts of Wicca & Paganism?

Torn blue sky \" Most people in britain when asked their religion said:
~Bill Bailey~

Long live the Bailey meister!

In the census (one before last years) in New Zealand enough people wrote Jedi as their religion for it to register as a religion.
The sour bastards in the government decided to count all those replies as \"did not answer\".

I must admit even though I am not a Star Wars fanboy I did respond with Jedi for this (their was actually a nationwide push before the census came out).

I can\'t say I\'m an Atheist or Religious

I would say \"Jedi\" comes the closest, just because I believe in Ghia/Mother Earth/Mother nature whatever you want to call it.

Everything is connected, don\'t believe in a deity - So where would I fall into

Well technically that would make you an atheist i believe. An Atheist is someone who denies the existence of a supreme being (or beings).

Probably closer to Wicca / Paganism really.

FWIW I\'m an Arch-Atheist but that doesn\'t make me a bad person:innocent:

EDIT: I wouldn\'t deny the existence of a supreme being, that would be disrespectful to those that did believe. I just don\'t believe personally.

What if you dont believe in a \'Religion\' God, but more a supernatural being, like an alien life force or something, using the earth as an experimental means? Would that fall into any catagory or just mean im going banana\'s. lol

No, that does have a name, I just cant remember it at the moment... we learnt about it when discussing theories of creation at university. But it doesnt solve anything - if they are \'just\' aliens, who created them? It focuses the creation question from one planet to another ;)

Could athiests therefore be classed as evolutionists, and religious people creationists?

(By classing these into these catagorys i dont mean any offence to anyone)

Interesting points concerning the \"Jedi\" issue. Frankly I put it on the census to bugger up the goverments workings a bit. If you remember there was the same issue here as what DEm explained.
I suppose \"jedi\" would be more close to the pagan/wiccan beliefs (although it has been pointed out that Mother Earth is regarded as a supreme being).
I go with the taoist belief system quite a bit, although it holds sway with other beliefs. I thought about these concepts before I read into taoism (Such as \"We come from the earth and to the earth we return\")
In regards to a supreme being, do I believe in one such being in existence?
Not as such,no. I do belive there\'s both good and evil forces at work. Does that make me an aethiest?
The lines are easy to blur with questions like that aren\'t they? People really ned to learn acceptance before judging others.

No! There are many religous people who believe in evolution. The two are not mutualy exclusive.

Chees for that EvilMonkey, as i said i wasn\'t trying to offend anyone.

There was a talk on Radio 2 a few months back about this subject and it seemed like like there was some pretty strong views about the evolution/creation argument.

Erm that doesnt\' make sense to me.
There was god, \"lets make people, yah\".
*Poof* theres Adam and Eve (or whoever/whatever) then what???
\"oh, lets turn them into bacteria or Sh!ts and giggles\" *poof* Bacteria???
Then comes dinosaurs (eventually).
\"ah, this is going a bit pear shaped!\"
Meteor shower *Poof* Square one.
None of this is in the holy tomes! It\'s a complete contradiction.

I thought it was just a direct rip-off of Jack Kirby\'s New Gods comic. :)
