Aurelius the Adept from RBG

Painted this one this afternoon. Nothin' fancy, it was about 3 or 4 hrs from primer to pics. I am practicing using GW's Orkhide shade as a... uhm... shade in places. Saw it on one of Jessica Rich's mini's and really liked it. So I had some questions arise from this mini...

-how do you paint spheres to get that gem like effect? I am used to doing the gems with one side mounted so it's more of a 2-d process. How do you guys do it?

-blonde hair? How do you guys like to paint it?

Round Gems Good question Scott, I'd suggest googleing Caithness Glass Paperweights to get an idea of the highlight/reflection surfaces.

Blonde hair..............Pick a card, any card. There are so many different recipies, but for Blond males without going the Scandinavian picture postcard route. Try Vallejo Goldbrown as the base, Wash with a glaze of Burnt Umber then rehighlight with Goldbrown and add Ivory for subsequent stages.

At to the figure itself this is a really nice sculpt and I'm kinda itching to try it myself. I'd have suggested that the red cloak needs to have a brighter leveling for the highlights. Personally I'd have added a flesh tone to the red as the highlighting as I've recently found that this gives a nice softer means of raising the colour without going brash or Pink.

Get a glas marble, a lamp that shines on it and make Photo of some directions of it. That is for me the easiest way to find out, how to paint. If you choose a marble, that has the color of your sphere, it is better too.

Blond hair? Dont know...

I like your model. But.. please dont be angry, but it is a little "plain". It is like something is forcing me, to paint something on the coat... even it is only a little border decoration.

TY Guys, thanks for the tips. And don't ever worry about pointing out how you feel about one of my mini's Tagg. I can appreciate and agree with your comment. Thanks for looking!

I paint sphere's the same as the more flattened ones, just that I treat the spheres as two sided putting the white dot on both sides in such a way that unless you are looking straight down on the mini you won't see both.

Looks good shawn. Maybe a little plain but that's partly the sculpt. Maybe a bit of freehand... Or some osl from the globe would look good. The blonde is nice

yeah green wash should work. id use a very dilluted wash very carefully thought, its pretty easy to overdo and make it look like he/she has bad pipes to the shower.
