Aussie relief mini

Painted this lovely miniature, provided by Gohkm, for the Aussie relief effort. Have to say it turned out to be a bit of a nightmare and I'm not entirely happy with the end result but I learnt a couple of things along the way and tried some fun new things so its not all bad!

Tamiya matte varnish killed her original base and he arm broke off after she was finished, thus the tattoo on her right bicep. I'm not sure what happened with her original base, it wasn't the usual varnish gone wrong, it just washed all the color out of the pigments on her base.

Pictures were unfortunately taken with my iPhone as my camera had an accident last week...

And now to the wall of images... : )

Snow effects, I think it's from woodland scenics or something, they do a lot of model train stuff and such. Comes in 1L tubs for $16 Canadian, though I'm sure you could find it cheaper or in smaller quantities. Mix it 2/2/1 effects/white glue/water and paint it on, then sprinkle more on top where you want it to look like fresh powder. If you just paint it on it looks slushy/icy.

I like it a lot. Sounds safer than having the crushed glass around with a little one in the house but with similar results. Thanks!

Nice one I especially like the blues on the cloth. I have some woodlands snow on the way, after some methodical investigation I figured it was the way togo.
