Saw it last night in 3D i enjoyed it, fantastic effects ! costs lots , so its gonna be good on that aspect, story line, ok , ill see it again, but if theres an i Max version , then that will be good, so folks go see it your enjoy it iam sure!

@ Funnymouth: How are the words 'hippie' and 'treehugger' even remotely in the same neck of the woods as the word 'nigger'?!

it is a word, intended to be insulting/derogatory towards a particular demographic of the population. merely because you dont find it to be rude, does not mean that it isn't. attacking ideological beliefs can be offensive.
i have been called those names, with hatred and detain in a fashion indented to be cruel and incite violence, so i, personally, find them to be distasteful.

i didnt intend for my comment to escalate in any way. if you must ignore me, so be it, but id rather be part of a community where people respect the differing opinions reflected in our diversity. i (most certainly) have ideological opinions which differ from others on this site, and i take that in to consideration when i post. an ideal response from you would have been "ok, i will not use those terms again," rather than questioning the validity of my emotional response.

ok, now that thats out of the way, ill butt out, and you can all talk about the movie (an interesting discussion thus far, aside from my futile and seemingly disruptive statement).

Watched it the other day in I-MAX wow o my god blew my mind away one of the best movies ive seen since lord of the rings. Cameron has raised the bar as far as i can see

He never 'went native' that is true, none of the crew in Pocahontas used Mechas either. The basics of the two movies are ridiculously apparent however. Western society wants natural resources, takes them without caring for the native population, natives defend their territory, western society person sides with the natives, falls in love with one of them, tries to stop the hostilities, major conflict, Hollywood ending.
Mind you, this statement is not made from actually watching the movie, rather from reading plot synopsizes and watching the trailers.

And using the same comparisons as the developers kinda takes the fun out of comparing according to me. Of course you will find similarities with Dancing With Wolves if they have used it as an official source for inspiration.

Actually it was what I though of about 30 min into seeing the movie for the first time. "So, it's like Dances with Wolves in technicolor?"
If Pocahontas shared surface points with Avatar, then Dances With Wolves shares that and the deeper undercurrents with it.

It wasn't so much an official source as it was the directors admitting the to two close tied storylines after being confronted about it several times in an interview.

Ah But the Aliens where the bad guys and it was and invasion. It's just that WE (humans) where the Aliens.

I wonder if the horses where a nod to "John Carpenter from Mars" Throts <sp>? And did he she have Diana Green as a teacher in school? sorry we did a project on how a six legged horse thing would run/ look.

Funnymouth, I think the terms "Treehugger" and to some excent hippie are being used in the context of one who views the whole global warming/ climate change/ human bad, nature good as a Religon, and feel that it is their Duty to inform/force/inforce everyone else to see the light. I would think that most folk are concerned with the enviroment, and see conservation and those invoved in it as doing a good and proper thing.

As for Redneck, some folks don't find that insulting, but a comploment. m2c

Same with treehugger. If I go through life without insulting anyone, I've accomplish nothing.
Though I'll tell you that most rednecks probably know more about the local flora and fauna than the "tree-huggers".
Besides the usual flip-floping attitudes of the ecological groups (20 years ago it was "use plastic not paper bags", 10 yrs ago it became "Plastic is filling our landfills because people treat it like paper bags! Buy paper or cloth bags!"). Not that the other side is much better.
