Back On The Ork Trail

I rediscovered this mini in the unfinished project cupboard recently and thought it about time i finished it.
Now all I have to do is paint a couple more and my original plan will be complete. Once again I used one of Spacemunkie\'s Ground Forge Bases as i thing they are just great especially the industrial ones they seem to go with the ork models realy well.

Very nice. Now I have a question, could I use a groundforge base and enter the GW miniature mounted on it in GD?

As far as I know there is nothing in the rules to say that you can\'t (yet), I think the warmachine style might be an issue as they do not look the same as GW bases with the rounded edge, I don\'t think it would stop you from entering. I used a groundforge base on an entry of mine in GD 05 and it got to the finals but who knows that may change for next year.

I did this year and still ended up with a finalist certificate.
Don\'t know what would have happened if it\'d got to the top of the tree though?

I don\'t know if Groundforge is registered with Companies House as a Company, somehow I doubt it, No-One in their right mind would want to willingly increase their tax bill if they can avoid it, so Groundforge might \"Slip below GW\'s radar\" so to speak.

Wasn\'t there a GD winner in the States a couple of years ago who entered on a Dark Age style base? I don\'t remember who it was but I\'m pretty sure that he wasn\'t disqualified.

Nice work and I do like the Ground Forge base and all his bases. As for entering it into a GW competition, I guess one could only try. I agree with DR they may not even have a clue who made the base and if cleverly mounted on a plinth would probably never know unless some git pointed it out after saying he \"Cheated\" or some sort of crap like that.

In all honesty and not to take anything away from Ground Forge, making your own detailed base isnt that hard to do, gives you something different that no one out there will possibly have and theres no room for questions. I think if one has the skill to convert and paint winning models making a base should not be a issue.

I\'m preeety sure it\'s the case that the majority of parts Must be GW. As long as the base is the right size I can\'t really se a problem...

Having said that I do \"wrong\" very well...

Its a grey area. It is patently obvious that the mini doesn\'t have to be all GW, otherwise all those people using woodland scenics and brass etched foliage would have been disqualified...
You don\'t want to use other companies minis though and if it is obviously a bought base you will score less than a scratch built.

The other thing I know the judges look for in basing is individuality... It only takes one other person to take the same base and suddenl your model loses the unique bonus points.

how was that skintone and the red achieved, looks really orky, great job, one of the best orks Ive ever seen (counting the Slayer Sword winner this year)
