Hi all, my latest WIP :

The fairy will be removed from her stand and glued into place on the pebble in the pond!


The diorama piece is something I was going to use for Ainariel, but decided not to as she is just too big! Link to that WIP - Ainariel for those interested in how I built the diorama.

Unfortunately I have paused Ainariel for the time being, but I will get back to her.

I have added some clouds to the sky, let me know what you think. The sky looks too obviously \"washed\" do you guys have any ideas how to remove that look ? Cheers :)

One a one to one basis I could show you how to paint a sky using watercolours in about 10 minutes.
Trying to describe it, I\'m knackered.
In the meanwhile try watching this Online Video it may help you to get the idea of giveinga an impression for distance instead of crisp detail.

Great, thanks a lot for that link I shall watch it now. I actually have some water colours so maybe its more suitable to use them. Thanks a lot !

I just tried a Google picture search for \"waterfall\" expecting lots of upward view shots with cloudy skies. Not the case, it would appear that smaller waterfalls like the one you\'re representing have loads of vegetation around the top.

If you get the sky painted in a looser watercolour style for background, then use a mix of bushes/shrubs around the top of the cliff for the mid-ground, it may help to give a better sense of the diorama vanishing into the distance rather than an abrupt wall of sky.

Don\'t worry about lots of fine definition/detail on the plants, you want the sky to be out of focus, the plants a little blurry & the fairy foreground super sharp.

Just some thoughts anyhow (not based on actual modelling experience!), keep up the good work, it\'ll be nice to see this project completed.

Thanks very much BPI, thats really helpful. What I will do is paint some shrubs and bushes a little past the river (before it becomes a waterfall). Dragonsreach that video was very helpful actually so what I might try and do is cover up the existing sky with white then restart using watercolours. Thanks to you both!

What I was looking for was videos by Charles Evans, whose method of doing skies is a simple \"Wet in Wet\" style.

Far As I know in that sense as watercolour goes it gets messy fast! it\'s easy to show, very hard to master. As you no doubt know Dr!
I was shown a guy using that kind of technique of a sunset And nailed it in 2 mins!
I tried and FAILED! Miserably! I\'t\'s just about as spot on as what I said about the Satriani thread Shawn started...Exept no rewind. Might wanna prep about a two dozen or so stretched canvases for that one...

update

Hi all, sorry for the slow progress on this. Here is an update : I have worked a lot on the fairy and have (for now) just added some shrubs to the background sky. I am still thinking about following Dragons\' advice and using watercolours but I was unsure of how they would react to A) the plasticard I am using and B) the citadel paint I already used for the sky. So, still up in the air on that lol. Anyway : to the photos!

Still wuite a bit of tidying up to do and the face needs a bit more shading/highlighting. Then there is the issue of the sky, which I am very open to suggestions about - although I think it looks quite cool now lol. I have such trouble trying to paint smooth flesh but I think hers came out alright. Usually it ends up clumping. P.S. the green stuff she is sat on will be painted to look like a rock !

Hi Majestic0110, congratulations on completing your project (I\'ve voted).

In the model shop this week I think I spotted this product (I remember the packaging being yellower), might be handy should you decide to do a v.2 (or for anyone else searching the forum for waterfalls). I include the link to the .pdf instructions because they might be of use whether you purchase or not. I think you\'d get change from £15.
