Thanks, Maenas. MrJim, I look forward to seeing you there!
I posted a longer version of this over on my blog, but I thought I'd share it here too. The dwarf pirate is the latest in a number of figures where I've been attempting to come up with an approach for unnatural skin. Something human-like, but somehow not quite normal. The sort of mix you'd use on an evil wizard, a chaos warrior, vampire, etc. What I came up with in this instance closely follows my normal skin approach, but tweaks the colors along the way. So instead of Chestnut Brown, Rosy Shadow, Fair Skin and Fair Highlight, I used:
Burgundy Wine + Rosy Shadow (more burgundy wine for deeper shadows and then maybe 10-20% for the lighter shadows)
into that I add 50/50 Fair Skin + Vampiric Shadow
then Vampiric Skin and Vampiric Highlight for the highlights
This shifts the shadows from a healthy reddish brown towards cool purple tones. It also takes the lighter skin shades and creates paler versions of them.
From there I go to the glazes. Normally I use red (in the cheeks and under the nose), purple (under the eyes and in the deeper shadows), and blue (for stubble) inks. I shift those too. So instead of red, it's 2 parts red and 1 part purple (50/50 would be fine too) and that reddish purple goes in the cheeks and under the nose. The purple becomes 1 part purple and 1 part blue. It goes under the eyes and in the deeper shadows of the cheeks. Here's a close up of the dwarf next to a normal looking skin tone (again, same approach just with the colors shifted).

The main idea is to shift the shadows from warm to cool and create paler looking midtones and highlights. But, I still include some skin tones and use those glazes to keep it feeling like it could be skin.
Don't forget to give the same attention anywhere skin is showing. Here's a closer look at the back of his hand. The glazes are just as important here, with the reddish purple going on the knuckles, then blue ink and some bluish purple going around the veins and in the shadows. Those colors are going to show up more, especially on pale skin.
