Thank you for posting that explanation Bailey, it's always interesting to read your posts about painting and very informative.

thanks for that post, you may have inadvertantly convinced me to fork out for something larger scale at some point, also i like the run down of colours you use for skin :beerwave:

Thanks, everyone!

Well, I've done a little more work on the bust. I continued to make small adjustments to the skin and took my first pass at the hair. It still needs work, I want to fix some blends and then go over with some glazes to tie it all together and reinforce the shadows. After that I'll go back in a redo the highlights as needed. The hair is probably my least favorite part of the bust to paint. It's tedious and not a pain to deal with. But, it's getting there.

Good lord Bailey. I the closer I looked the more incredible detail I notices, like the gums/lips. Corners of the eyes, your attention to detail is uncanny.

Bailey, this really looks incredible! Do you have more planned for the mouth? I wonder if his lower lip needs more of a gradient from side to side and if you want to make his teeth shinny. He's big enough that some gloss varnish or even water effects would take care of both. What do you think?

Thanks, everyone.

Demi, yes, I had planned to do a little more work on the lips and, when that was finished, add some gloss to the inside of the mouth. I'd even toyed with the idea of adding some drool strings or spittle or something like that... but I'm not sure I really want to mess with that on this piece.

I wouldn't go as far as drool strings, maybe just some flecks on the corners of his mouth. I love how the chalkiness properties of white paint actually contributes to the realism of his lower lips.

Also was amazed today when I was reading your blog at the red pit in his eye. I thought to myself, I wonder if it came like that, then I slapped myself and realized, of course it didn't. This guy painted that on. Wow.

Thanks, Oistene, BFK, and Moetle

I made some adjustments to the face with a little more glazing. After that I went back to work on the hair, smoothed out some issues and increased the highlights. Just some small changes from last time.

Bails one thing that slightly bothers me for some reason, and you know from feedback it's already 9.5+, but I feel like there are highlights under his eyes that need to be shadows. Maybe extend the hoods under his eyes a bit out from the corners they are in and make them lower. I think if you make these bags under the eyes more noticeable and actually exaggerated, it will increase the moodiness of the piece. What you think brother?

I'm not sure I follow 100%, I'm not sure which highlights you think should be shadows. I did lighten up the bags under his eyes a bit from a previous version where I thought they were too dark (you can see that one on the previous page's posts). In terms of expanding their size, it would be a bit tough with just paint. In my research before starting, I saw another artists version where he actually resculpted the eyes and created larger bags under them. It was nicely done, but well beyond my sculpting abilities to even attempt. Are you suggesting I use paint/shadow to extend them further down the cheek? Or are you talked about extending them from the corners more off to the side of the eyes?

Also, keep in mind those images (at least on my screen) are about 3 times the size of the actual face, so what you're talking about may not be noticeable in real life. Here's a look at the full bust with a scale reference (and it's still about 50% larger than actual size).
