Pretty cool man! Reminds me a lot of some of Mathieu Fontaine's stuff. Your style is really showing through on the space marine. Would love to see you paint something more whimsical, like say... some Rackham Dwarves????

Do I detect the beginings of some freehand on the belt buckle?

Slow and steady is just fine. I have to say I have seen this guy everywhere, but rarely have i seen him painted to this level.

Thanks, Demi, Zab, and Canny. Very kind words, Demi. And yeah, I'm working on a little eye of Horus for the belt.

Well, I dunked one of my old Dwarf Wreckers in some simple green this morning. We'll see how he's doing tonight. I've got a little bit of painting time this weekend before I go all radio silence until June. If I manage to get started on him I'll post some pictures next to the version from 5 or 6 years ago.

Thanks, Milosh and Skel. Yeah, I'd like to see some of your stuff in person as well. Hopefully we'll convince you to come out to Crystal Brush, MFCA or one of the other shows in the US. At some point I'd love to fly out for one of the big European shows... but might be a while before that happens.

Well, while taking a break from packing I decided to start on a Rackham dwarf. I've focused on the face and I'm just starting to do the rest of the figure now.

And, just for fun, here's a side by side with one of the ones I painted 6 or so years ago. I've come a little way since then.

I think the MFCA show would be the most interesting, its just around the corner now right? i shall seriously look into it for next year! :)

Thanks, DR and Skel.

Yeah, Skel, the MFCA show is this weekend. Unfortunately I'm going to miss it this, but I'm hoping to get there next year. If you come in for then I'll definitely be here!

Just a mini update on the dwarf (though I suppose that's fitting ). Worked on the gloves and I've started on the metals. This will be the last update for a while. I won't get another chance to paint until June when I arrive in California!

looking good. I didn't realize California was so far away. Last time I went, it only took me about 3hrs to get there from Oklahoma. :p

Ha, I guess that sounds a little off. Well, I never said I was going straight to CA. My wife and I are taking our honeymoon. We were waiting until after she finished school. So we're going to Italy first, then we're off to California.

Thanks, Kretcher. I was going to put up a post on my painting blog going into more detail on how I did the face. But I won't get to that for a couple days. The quick version is Chestnut Brown, Rosy Shadow, Rosy Skin, Fair Skin, Fair Highlight, and Pure White (all from Reaper). After that I took some of the GW red glaze, thinned it down, and then added some red to the nose, cheeks, ears, and anywhere else I wanted. I then took some of the blue glaze and mixed it with the red to create a purple. That went into some of the deeper shadows and at the temples. I used a little of the pure blue glaze under the eye, but just a touch.

Hi Bailey,

I just looked at your Philip II you've linked in SkelS thread yesterday - really great job. The whole mini is very well painted, and the shield and especially the freehand in the middle is just amazing.
Been and voted.
And yes - I am quite late to Philip's party... ;)

Well done one the dwarf, too. Especially the eye(s)... awesome.
