Yeah, Demi. I usually just wear my sabretache around the house and then switch to the more socially acceptable fanny pack when I go out. I'll use violet red for the lips too (violet red + rosy shadow, then into fair skin for the highlights). Never tried magma red with the muddy brown, I'll have to experiment a bit with that. Thanks!
BFK, there's a lot of sculpted detail but then I'm adding some extra touches on top of that. I did something similar with the last Napoleonic figure. Lots of directional strokes to create the impression of texture. This time around I'll be doing some of that too, though for other areas I'm going to try something a little more structured (like the diagonals at the bottom of the shako).
And luckily Abyss isn't all sci-fi. That undead/cthulhu looking bust is really intriguing.

Well, I've moved from the head on down to the torso. There's a ton of gold detail work all over his coat, so I'm breaking it up and working on smaller sections at a time. Here's a quick look a the process. I begin with a dark base of 50/50 Necro Gold (scale75) and Imperial Purple (reaper). Then I use Elven Gold and paint a series of parallel lines. I want to do a border on either side, so I paint a thin line of black on the top and bottom (cutting off parts of the previous lines) and then carefully go over that with Elven Gold. I leave a small strip of black to help separate the strokes. Lastly I go in with mixes of Elven Gold and Citrine Alchemy to do some highlighting. Again, I'll take some black and clean up any small mistakes as I go.

Demi, thanks. There's some sculpted detail in the hat (like the rings and at the vertical divisions in the part holding on the cockade) but other details are painted on. For this project when there are plain sections I'm trying to add more texture.

Oh, I bet there are a bunch of talented artists on here who wouldn't refuse a bust to paint for the joy of painting and send the finished photos or even post WIPs as they go. This is a pretty generous community and they tend to throw support behind a lot of different projects both personal and business oriented for little to no cost.Well it is much appreciated!

Yeah, Zab is right. If you just want finished photos then I (and many others here) may take a project for free just because we like it. If you want the figure back when it's finished, that's something people will more likely charge for.

Yep there are plenty of "Promo material" given out to the talented, Its a good way to get the word out. There are super gobo's are all over the show at the mo and they are not out yet, makes me want to get some!

I'm trying to make some progress on the aide-de-camp, but that jacket is a real pain. I'm getting burnt out doing all the gold detail, so I try to do just a little each time I work on him. Looking at the pictures I'm just now seeing the difference between the detailing on the hat and the detailing on the jacket. The lines on the hat are much tighter and the jacket's borders and cuffs look a bit sloppy by comparison. I definitely need to go back in and clean those up.
With the details around his waist finished I was able to go in and add his other arm. Most of it will be covered by the pelisse slung over his shoulder, so I'm not bothering with much shading/highlighting or fixing the gap at his shoulder. But his wrist and hand will show, so I put some work in on those. I'm really looking forward to finishing off that jacket so I can move on to the pants. No more gold for a while, just lots of folds and blends to worry about.
Oh, and I did go in and add a bit more red to the cheeks. He needed a little more color.

So how do you rate the Alchemy set? I know Reaper metallics aren't amazing, though they do have some good off beat colors like Old Bronze and Tarnished Brass. I have a couple of pots of P3 that I like and I think the old GW metallics were great. Should I shell out for the Alchemy set?

Demi, I love the Scale 75 Metal 'n Alchemy paints. In my opinion they are the best water based metallic paints on the market. I've used the Vallejo Model Air metals, and they're a nice alternative (easier to find and you can buy individual paints). But I think the Scale 75 has better color options, especially in the yellow metals. All the VMA yellows tend to be odd colors.
Other sets, like GW, Reaper, and P3 have some nice metallic colors. But the pigments are bigger and the paints feel more like toothpaste than true paint. The Scale 75 are nice and thin, flow really well off the brush and are much easier to layer and create blends.
Of course if you don't mind use an alcohol based paint (or enamel or whatever), then there are other options that can be just as good.

Like Tamiya? I have a few Tamiya metallics and one, Flat Aluminum, is really out of this world. The 'flakes' are like microscopic.
