Oh, and for the savage lands setting, I just ordered this kit from Tamiya

One of the guys at the LA Miniaturist group was showing them off this weekend. The detail on the sculpts was pretty nice and they're the right size/scale. I think it'd be neat to work at least one of them into the base. The main figure isn't in a fighting pose, so these would be like his companions or pets.

A Pegaso booth next year would be amazing. I was really hoping they would have one this year. A lot of their stuff I can't find outside their own site and the time and shipping cost from Europe usually stops me from getting what I want.

A jungle theme would work very well. Can we expect a lot of aquarium plants on the base? Maybe some ruined temple stones.

Bailey, I understand your philosophy completely, and I often think about your choices when I decide whether or not to keep keeping on with a project.

I see your challenge with the colors on the skirt. Your black and red certainly look great, just not sure if I'd be satisfied or not. I'd likely go with an orange-yellow, or even an NMM gold. Something more desaturated maybe, but then again....one of those tough ones that I normally spend days mulling over. When things get really tough for considering pallet choices, I simply Google Fantasy Art and find a painting with colors that suit me. Think I need to see the scales from the other side....

Fluister, I'll probably skip the aquarium stuff, though that's an interesting idea. I've got some etched brass jungle leaves/plants. A ruined temple stone would be cool, though I'm not sure if I can fit it in. I've got a wood block for the figure and it's not huge, so we'll see what I can fit on it.

BFK, oh there are countless color combinations for the scales, but this fit my vision for the figure.

I'm still figuring out the colors as I go along. So bit by bit I'm moving this project forward. I'm working on texture with this figure too. The leather straps involved a bunch of short strokes and lighter colors on the edges to get that worn and cracked leather look. The larger leather pieces were done using stippling to create texture. Still plenty to do, but he is far enough along that I could add one of his arms. I used a hair to create the bowstring. It's my first time trying this, but it seems strong and thin enough so I think it works well.

Thanks, everyone.

10 ball, no problem. I was already planning to steal some ideas from your jungle bases for this project... so I suppose it's only fair you take some of mine.

I'm still plugging along. More leather parts painted and I've attached the quiver. I'm trying to follow the patchwork look of the sculpt but still create a consistent look for everything. So I'm using a lot of the same colors in the mixes. The purples (Burgundy Wine and Imperial Purple) show up a bunch, in some mixes and shadows. I'm also adding a lot of the same browns (Brown Liner, Muddy Brown, and Tanned Skin) into the other colors I'm using the in the cloth and leather portions. As the mixes get more complicated I'm finding it especially important to keep good notes on the colors I'm using for each section.

I've still got a little to do on the quiver, then I should probably start on the bow. I'm still at a loss for what colors to do for that. It's an odd design, so that's not really helping me with my decision process.

How about a golden type of wood , you could get some real quality wood grain painted on like you get on those expensive target rifle stocks?

I would go for a very dark wood to keep the overall look. Adding some purple and burgundy the mix to help. I think too light a wood would draw the attention away from the patchwork leather and sash.

Maybe the bow is made with the horns of a minotaur or some demon. He is wearing the hide of some scaly beast(dragon hide maybe?) he slew after all :)
