Just amazing! As for the shield, I would keep the inner part and the outer rim metalic, just because I don't know if they were painted back then and how well the ancient paint would stick to metal. But that's just me being scared to take risks :tremble!:

Cheers,

Thanks, everyone! I'm finally wrapping up my work trip today. I'm looking forward to a nice quiet weekend of painting, so I should I have some more progress to post soon!

In other news, I thought I'd share two new kits that might interest some of you. The first is a Beauty and the Beast figure from Michael Kontraros. It's another pre-release through indiegogo with it going up in their store shortly after. Interestingly enough, this is based on a previous Beauty and the Beast figure he did which one best of show at MFCA, however it's not the same figure. The poses are different, the scenery is definitely changed, and the girl's dress has been changed and a cape added to the beast. It's still a great piece with a lot of potential. Definitely worth checking out

The second is a conan-like figure from Joaquin Palacios Studio. It's 80mm tall, so if you like barbarian figures and don't mind working in a slightly larger scale, take a look

That's all for now. Hopefully I'll have some of my own stuff for you soon!

Love the B&B figure, but I"m so tired that every barbar has to look like Conan. Would like to see a more original barbar.

Cheers,

Your sbs for your freehand work is very appreciated Bailey. As a relative beginner I'd love to try my hand at freehand at some point, but a lot of the designs look so complicated that it's hard to know where to begin. Breaking it down into steps makes a lot of sense. So thank you.

That B&B figure is gorgeous! As you say, it has great potential to tell a poignant story. And the quality looks great.

Finally, with regards to your Adepticon demo: my vote would be for skin and hands. I know that a lot of people (myself included) battle with this aspect of miniature painting. And as you pointed out, it does apply to both gamers and display painters.

With the tunic finished, I turned to his accessories. I wasn't quite sure about my plan for the shield, so I started with the spears. To make it a little more interesting I put in a gradient getting lighter towards the tips. Next I did the hands trying to keep them pale. I still want to do some glazing on them, but that will just be purples and blues, no reds.

For the pants I went with a mix of colors. The midtone is 50/25/25 Basic Dirt, Dark Elf Skin, and Heather Blue (so brown, grey, and blue). The shadows are Ritterlich Blue and Brown Liner. The highlight is a mix of Vampiric Shadow and Dark Elf Highlight. The Heather Blue shows up in the tunic and leather, the Basic Dirt is in the wood and leather, Vampiric Shadow is in the highlights for the wood and tunic, and the Ritterlich Blue/Brown Liner mix is in the shadows all over. The result is a new color for the pants, but still tied in to the rest of the figure.

I finally decided on a basic plan for the shield. In the sections I'm going to alternate between light and dark blue (just base coated now). The outside ring and center will be steel (just with a dark blue as a base to work on). I then want to do another design in white on top of all that, but I'm not sure what. Jason Martin did a nice step by step on the shield over on facebook, so I'll be referring to that when I start.

Hi,

All on the miniature is really good but the work on the blue cloth is pretty awesome, even more with the freehand.

Many thanks,
Mariano.

The gradient effect on the spears is an interesting idea and works well. I love the idea of pulling together colours from other parts of the model to create the colour for the pants - it really does give the whole piece a sense of unity. Great tip that I'm going to try to remember and implement at some point.

Real quality mate, love the colours used for the leggings :good:
I would be tempted to slightly red up his palms & knuckles?

Thanks, Skel, Arkhareon, Aniku, ArchArad, and 10.

10, yeah, normally I would add some red glazes to the hands. Here I'm not as sure. Since it's supposed to be a cold scene, I reasoned the body is diverting blood away from the extremities to the core and head (hence the flushed face and the pale hands). I could probably add a little bit of red and be okay. That is the downside of living in southern California, it's much harder to get my cold weather reference. This would have been much easier when I lived in New Hampshire. I could have just walked outside and been like 'oh, that's what hands look like in sub zero weather.'

What do you all think? How should hands look when out in the cold?
