Ban Draft Pick

So I have been thinking about spike and watching the lastgame I played as he walked through all the mobs on the board rolling 22 defenseand killing them as he passed. Then walked up to lord fang and did the samething. I do not think Spike is so over powered that he is out right bannablefrom al games, not yet at least, since he has so many hard counters. What weshould have done was pvp him to death until he was no longer a threat withcharacter such as MC hammer and Seth. So I have another campaign this Saturday, and we use the draft mode. I think I am going to take a page from MOBAs andallow a ban draft, where I lay out all characters and each player bans 1 cardfrom the draft. This allows Spike to still be allowed into the game if all playersare willing to not ban him. So there will be 3-4 characters not allowed to evenhave a chance to be in the game. (2 players get 2 bans, 3 players get 1 each).

Thoughts?

Thanks t GreyTemplar for the help I this decision.

Random pick system:
Clockwise every player picks any hero card from a stack which is hidden and shuffled till he has 3 hero cards. Like memorie.

After everyone picked 3 hero cards with the random pick system you can compare them approximately via tier list.
If a player has 3 hero cards which are tier 3 (super bad) he may withdraw 2 heroes and randomly draw 2 new hero cards from the rest of the cards. (option: which are not tier 3)
If a player has 3 hero cards which are tier 1 (super strong) he must withdraw 1 hero card and randomly draw 1 new hero card from the rest of the cards. (option: which is not tier 1)

(Option
: If it is the same tier he may withdraw it immediately and draw a new hero card.)

Round about. Rule of thumb estimate :) .

I like your Idea. This are my feelings on it. You can combine them if it comes to the worst :D .
We only have the normal version. At the moment there are no super unbalanced scenarios. We are at our first game.

Keep us updated which system works the best for you and your crew. Thanks

I am modifying my rules a little more. I am going to just lay all the characters out, then I am going to do the bans. After that The player who goes first will get first pick of 1 hero, then goes to left to pick. After each player picks their first hero, the second player gets first pick of Round 2 Heroes, so forth and so on til everyone has 3 or 4. I think doing 4 will allow a last minute change if needed ( but I would allow it to be blind)

I think there is more strategy potentially here where you are picking to block players with their best character plus counter picking each others characters.

I will let you know how to goes and if it is something we will keep, I will make the rule set for doing this in a little cleaner format.

If I just do a 3 round draft, that puts a disadvantage to the 4th player since they never got to pick first round picks. I make let that player choose the map.

Hi there, I've been thinking about using a ban draft pick as well. My rules are pretty similar to yours (based on MOBA's as well :) ), except that I lay out the heroes in two or three phases (still testing it) instead of all at the same time. It goes something like this.

· Lay out half of the heroes.
· Ban round (1st to ban will be last to pick, and last to ban will be 1st to pick)
· Pick round
· Remove remaining heroes
· Lay out other half of the heroes.
· Ban round (same as before, but move starting position clockwise)
· Pick round
· Extra pick round (moving starting position clockwise)

Also tried a 3 round ban+pick with pre-defined hero sets, first melee heroes, then non-magical ranged, and finally magic heroes. But since this may produce sub-optimal combinations, and it may be very difficult to classify some heroes in any of these categories we discarded this option ^^ you can try it anyway and it may work for others.

Comments on how to improve this are welcomed! :)

I modified the rules last second. The game is more fun that the last few times I played.

1. I did 2 rounds of Ban pick ( Laid out all the characters , minus the villain characters (( except for Bowie and Spike))) we went round each person banning 1 character each , did 2 rounds of that
2. Then did the Advanced rule Blind Draft Pick.

Going to play around with some other things, but so far it worked well, and saw alot of teams I hadn't before and didn't have to worry about crazy characters ( Cough spike Cough)

We dealt five characters each then drafted three times. It makes the game more random and limits some of the easy heroes but there are still a few awesome heroes that sneak in. We still had Wisp, Heartless and I seemed to win due to having both Smiley and Sonya.

I think we should have drafted all five, or even use six if you want an option at the end, then you get to ban one character on your left and on your right. That would make it simple and keep games/guilds random.

Thinking about this you would never get to use the great heroes at all so perhaps before banning you get to protect one of your hereos.

This makes you use characters you would never draft and figure out ways to use them. This is part of the fun for me.
