Banebeasts..what happened?`

I know they started out producing "rough" miniatures, but quickly became one of the best, innovative miniature houses around.
Yes, they name their creations by randomly bashing the keyboard.
Yes, they are testicularly obsessed...

But they produced miniatures so well engineered, created with the most amazing resin compound, they they were a joy to build and paint.

But no longer...
Seems their current resin is...different, glossier, has poorer detail retention, and seems harder to glue.
I compare the wings of Krull, to the wings of their wyvern, and shake my head sadly....

I also have GALHWCH LLADD LLAW (see what I mean about random keyboard bashing?) and the fit of most of his limbs, especially the two halves of the head..are quite poor.

Also, their web site updates have fallen off dramatically.
I haven't seen a new paint job for months, The Wyvern and blood maw both were introduced with a one-angle painted image, but no "official" paint shots...are these just photoshop jobs?

Oh, and seriously, do we really need FOUR blindfolded sword-wielding ladies??

What's going on...?

Virtually all f the bane beasts creatures have Welsh names........I've never bought anything from them as everything is stupidly big.

Their last two creations have bee on the shoddy side, with the basilisk seeming to look unfinished. I do find their stuff impressive, especially the chimera and wyvern.

I wonder aswell.

Bought a few banelords after i finished the chimera, that was awesome. Both of them were really bad, almost finecrap bad. I ended up binning the both of them.

Yes, I thought that, the scales are just random, haphazard things, not in neat lines, especially on the tail.
Looks like someone assigned the task to the work-experience kid, who cut in some random lines over lunch.

Considering how awesome the Forgeworld basilisk is:

Compared to the craptascular Banebeast:

In fact, damn it, I am going to order the Forgeworld one right now!
Or not...too expensive...

The last Banebeast I ordered was the Blood Maw, and the casting is just about as perfect as one could ask for. I'm not too fond of a great many of their sculpts, but depending on whether I like the sculpt or not, I'll buy future releases for sure. I don't think the casting can be faulted too much - perhaps they just went through a bad batch?

That's rediculous. If I work at McDonalds and just "go through a bad batch of burgers" and the food poisoning kills you...well...don't fault me too much because, it's not like I should watch out for faulty product before selling it...

I'm not saying don't blame Maelstrom - if they've gone through a bad batch, then perhaps they ought to have made reparation to affected parties. I don't even know if it's possible to have a bad batch of casting resin, akin to a bad batch of W&N brushes.

Whatever the case, based on the history of nice sculpts and the simple fact that I've had only a single issue with them in 5 years odd of custom, I'm willing to cut them a little slack if they did indeed have a bad batch, and continue buying from them. That's pretty much it.

I picked Vilthiss up at Salute and it was a joy to assemble and paint but I dont think they have released a good sculpt since the Blood-Maw. The basilisk looks like the cheap resin creatures you used to find at GenCon years ago.

Dude - it's a Welsh name!

And how many people speak Welsh on this good planet? <0.01%?
And if that's Welsh..good GOD their tongues must be double jointed.

I was gonna but a Maw from Maelstrom, but I always Google search "[product name] cart" to see if I can get a better deal.

Fantization had one for $55 USD!!!

That's like 40% off!!

SOLD!

Welsh, Gaelic (both Scottish and Irish), and few others aren't pronounced the way they are spelt. It's absolute havoc! But I'm strange that way, in that the peculiar combination of letters seems very pretty to me.

If you listen to the elves talking in LOTR that is heavily based on the Welsh language, but made softer, sometimes the Welsh language can sound very harsh.

whatever the Welsh sound like, we kicked their butt in soccer last friday, sorry, couldn't resist
On topic, don't like the basilisk either, they've made much, much better things in the past.

I have bought a couple, Scar something fiend of Vermin was a nice looking piece. Had to drill the weapon and the left arm though, HORRIBLE to glue together. :dazed:

I'll agree their sculpts are very bad nowadays. I think they too know it, haven't bought anything from them in almost a year, I see I'm not the only one... :secret:

You think you're that important to them as a customer...?

LOL, joking..!

It IS sad to see how they have dropped the ball, first reducing the resin quality, then not updating the site for ages, and it seems they aren't commissioning pro paint jobs any more either.

Let's hope they don't do a Confrontation, and disappear in a puff of debt.

Hmm, I think I know why there has been so few updates:

"BaneLegions Changes are a happening to the BaneLegions range inc many migrating over to the forthcoming Darklands game set for a 2013 release!"
