Cut pork or chicken in slices, put it wavy on some skewers.
Grate a piece of ginger(1-2 cm), mix with 4 spoons of Kecap manis as well as soysauce and put over the meat. Let it soak in for 2 hours. Then put it on the grill.
For the peanut sauce, chop 125g rosted, salted peanut very fine. Heat some oil in a pot and roast 2 spoons of red currypaste. Fill with 1/4l cocosmilk and 1/8l water, give peanuts and 2 spoons brown suger in the pot, and let it boil 10-15 minutes. Refine with a bit salt and 2 spoons limejuice.

Hi, Sakura!

My Inonesian mother always made pinda (Dutch) or katchang (Indonesian) sauce for saté. Tge recipe is a little different from yours:

Sauté some finely chopped garlic and ginger in a suace pan. Add a few generous tablespoons of peanut butter (crunchy or creamy, your choice ) in a sauté pan and continue heating over a low fire. Add water as the peanut butter congeals to keep a smooth consistency, add ketjap manis and tomato catsup (Heinz 57 for m!) to taste. Add some sambal oelek,(or sambal badjak or manis or whatever you prefer...or Tabasco sauce if that\'s what you have) to the desired degree of spicyness along with some freshly squeesed lemon juice.

Serve the sauce hot with saté or cold with raw or cooked vegetables.

My mother didn\'t make her sauce spicey, I first tasted it that way when we went to Indonesia. When I asked her about it, she said that she was afraid us kids (back then!) wouldn\'t like the spicey version, so that\'s how she\'s made it all these years. The spicey is much better.

Since Saté is made basicly everywhere in Asia there have to be tons of different recipes.
But I always prefered the ones with real peanuts over those with peanutbutter. Just personal taste.

If you like to see what you\'re eating, do your eyes extend on stalks? I mean, I can only see my food until it gets to about 5cm away from my mouth, and then it\'s guess-work from there... My nose gets in the way.
lol

You should try a nice Jerk Chicken recipe!

People always say \'you are what you eat\', and I seem to eat a lot of jerk! :)

Jerk Chicken:

2 scotch bonnet (preferred) or jalapeno (if you can\'t find the former)
4 green onions
1/4 cup vegetable oil
1 tbsp red wine vinegar
1 tbsp FRESH thyme
1tbsp soy sauce
1tbsp brown sugar
1 tsp sea salt
1/2 tsp fresh black pepper
1/2 tsp ground allspice
1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
1/4 tsp ground cinnamon
1/8 tsp ground cloves
4 boneless chicken breasts

Mince everything (except the chicken) in a food processer to achieve a paste. Cover chicken with paste and refridgerate for about 4hrs. Fire up the barbeque and cook like any other chicken breast :)

Becca, Becca, Becca - these are special ribs...will grow a great beanstalk in the backyard.

Actually, they\'re beef ribs, not pork ribs - they taste much better!

Thanks - it really struck me when I was reading it the other week. I knew I had to put it up there after the \"winners need not apply\" thread. Just seemed appropriate for some reason.
