base decoration for huge 16mm monster - need advice and ideas

Hi everyone

i could need some advice. a few months back i bought an old demonworld 16 mm army that looks great and i finally want to paint and base the biggest piece of it: a gigantic spider with a tower on its back and a bunch of gobblins inside. so i want this really big thing ( about 30 mm ) to look even bigger and came up with the idea of sculpting something tiny for the base, like a village or trees.

so my questions are:

How would you sculp/make tiny houses/trees/stuff for 16mm - or is there something on the market i can buy??

any other ideas besides those two i have for the base ??

30mm that\'s just over an inch, it\'s not really that big. If the height of the average soldier is 16mm then a house would be about as big as the spider.....

Are your measurements right or am I missing something?

allright, allright
.. its been a long day and i was only estimating
(besides the spider is not assembled yet )

so i took some measurements and ended up with
10mm/0.7 inch for the average goblin (humans are indeed 16 - 17 mm)and about 29mm for the spider

i should rather have said that the spider is supposed to be gigantic - according to the background there are 30 goblins in the tower. but the figure must fit on its base so, you´re right the spider is not true to scale

still my original questions remain:)

i remember one duell pic shown here on CMON where a space marine and a orc fought a jump pack battle high up in the air and the illusion of height was created by using tiny details on the base (can´t find it anymore)

i wanna do something similar

No I get it now. I googled up some pics of the stuff you\'re on about. The spider is gigantic for the scale of the minis and seems to be mounted on several hexes.

You could do some ruins for it to be climbing over but what I think would look really cool is if you had it crawling over an overturned cart or baggage train.

Sorry that i got no pictures in the beginning to make my questions a little bit clearer to you ,but mine isn´t assembled yet and i got no pictures of painted ones at my PC (plus for some reasson i wasn´t able to find one with google:redface: )

yes that thing IS gigantic - gigantic mammals/dragons/insects are the trademark of demonworld and yes, its mounted on 7 hexes ( a circle of 6 with one in the middle - the biggest one in the game)
i think we two have the same picture in mind - a nasty spider crawling over something

well iwant to do something with Green stuff since i think its most easy to handle and since i have a lot of space on the base i will do 2 -3 objects starting with some GS trees.
i thought i build them with some very thin wire, wrap it in GS and give it some structure with my modeling tool - but do you know how to make treetops at this scale??

You might be able to find some stuff to purchase or just use for inspiration/reference if you look at model train shops and hobby centres. There\'s tonnes of them online, I have no links sadly as they were all lost in a format a while ago. A search should turn up a bunch of forums and online stores.

Model train hobbyists use odd letters for their scale references, there should be a reference to their meaning somewhere with a quick search too. Anyway, the small scale you\'re looking for might be fairly uncommon as far as trains go, but I know they\'re out there as I was looking at them for Epic and Warmaster scenery some time ago when I was thinking about getting into those games.
