base for tsar Boris

Hi,
I got the tsar Boruis model today from GD basically its a lord on polar bear.I want to do something more then just a normal flack base.I may try snow scatter but would also like a multileval base maybe some rocks.Any one got any ideas.I may want to enter it into Golden Demon so the base needs to stay the same size thougha larger base could be used with a hole in for the model.Any way heres a pic:

James If you are intending to enter it into Golden Deamon the youngbloods were supposed to have a limitation on the base size (ie only 28mm Figure models no mounted figures) there was a posted thread quoting the \"official GW\" stance on that taken from their forums.

Basically while we would all like you to do well in Youngbloods we don\'t want to see you disappointed by being disqualified due to a rule error.

I\'ve just read the latest White Dwarf which has the details of the Youngbloods and yes they are limited to Foot figures on 25mm Round and Square bases.

Which as my wife has just said : \"Is a bit of a bummer cos it\'s not allowing them to be creative.\"

I argued for several weeks with the GD coordinator :D The model you enter has to have come with a base no bigger than 25mm, but you are allowed to use upto 40mm \"for decoration\" or whatever, round or square, as in the adult categories. Only exception for the 25mm rule is terminators because they still count as man-sized.

As for the base, as James said, slate is excellent. Slate, lovely slate :duh: I like using slate a lot... slate is also quite a soft rock, so you can use lots of glue to stick it on the base, drill through the polar bear\'s leg and the largest piece of slate, and you can pin him. spray black, and drybrush with greys. You could spatter some little bits of orange or pale green to simulate lichen growth. If you add snow, don\'t use GW snow s catter because it\'s crap :) Baking soda or baby powder are alternatives, I\'m sure there are many other methods too. Just don\'t you go adding any beavers! :D They\'re watching you...

Have you thought about using cork bases. Most of my ogres are on them (Check my gallery) Mix this with some rocks and gravel from the garden and then cover liberally with snow. I have a few bundy bear snaps I\'ll post one when I find it.

Found one. Heres a bear I did for a friends army (There was a unit of three) They represented maneaters.

I use baking soda and white glue and water mixed in equal parts.. Just a touch (and I mean a VERY SMALL) amount of blue paint (About a pin heads worth) to stop the yellowing.

After it dries cover the snow with a mix of glue water and a touch of white paint about a drop. When this dries do it again and then last coat is straight white glue.

Good luck post some pics when you can.
