Basecoat paint mix?

I\'m having trouble painting on a smooth basecoat and I\'m wondering if its because im using a flow improver in my mix?

Should I be mixing in a flow improver into a basecoat or will it create a problem with the paint smoothing over an area?

Im pretty sure flow improver would be better for washes, as it breaks the surface tension of the paint, allow it to flow into the recesses.

Just use water, good old tap water, or purified water if you live in a hard water area.

hmmmm. Use water, keep it diluted. Use 2-3 coats.

If it takes more than 3 coats for a flat, even coat, its TOO DILUTED!

If it gets lumpy, or only takes one coat for a full color covered coat, its NOT DILUTED ENOUGH!

flow improver shouldn\'t matter.
