Basing

I have a mini I painted yesterday that I think is the best I have done yet. I even highlighted it but the owner wants to do the basing on it himself. Is it even worth trying to get a decent score with it when the base is not even done? I am just curious I may just post it in the forums.

You could probably make a temporary base for it for posting here, and then take it off when you send it to the owner.

Unbased will definitely hurt your score. So, if you care about the score, I would follow Necroghast's advice or simply not bother. You can always post it here, without putting it in your gallery.

Only your top five scoring miniatures count towards your ranking, so there's no harm to putting something that might score a little lower in your gallery.

they are uber small glass or resin balls. a lot of people rave about them. haven't used them myself yet (bicarb works well though and is very cheap) but a lot of people rave about them

Nope Woodlands scenic is as good as any other the trick is knowing how to use it.
With PVA I've found it to go very dull and grey on it's own especially if used to represent Deep Snow. However add White paint to the PVA and then the snow effects and theres a marked difference.

I've found that when using white glue the Woodlands stuff looks more like slush than snow. I used a slightly different approach than Dragonsreach, instead of mixing white paint into the glue (might try that next time) I paint the areas that will be based with snow, white. When the glue dries clear, the snow retains it's white color. I'll try and post a pic tonight of my approach - used it on a GW Sister of Battle - have to remember to get it out of the display case at the game store.

I've been using the techstar snowflake stuff myself. Normally just make a goop out of it and pva glue put it were i want and then sprinkle some of the dry powder over the top whilst still wet. If i need extra sparkle i have this funny crystal stuff from smashing up a gemstone i got at a fossil shop, dont know what the hell it was but does add some nice sparkle. Though i believe some people use powdered glass for the same thing.
