Looking really good BaT, did you give the \"dish soap\" a go? it looks like you got a nice smooth glaze on the skin with no \"halos\"

@AsgardUK: I did not try out the dish soap on this mini. By the time I asked I had already corrected any halos I had come across. My next mini is getting the soap wash though. Sounds like it\'ll make my life easier.

@charlie121: Thanks for the link. I\'ll have to print out the pics for reference.

I also realized that the all the different types of varnish I have pretty much suck. I used my matte varnish on this mini. Does that look matte to anyone else? I\'m going to find myself a bottle of dulcoat. Would I be able to spray the dulcoat over the varnish I already put on? I REALLY dislike the sheen. Other than that, I am happy with how she came out.

I posted her for voting and such. I posted another mini I painted before this one. She\'s not all that great but I really like how her hair came out so I put her up there for inspection anyway. I also figured it would help me hit my 50 votes so my rank will actually register...

BAT - For Metals dry giving them washes with Blue inks, Purple inks.

Brown, Chestnut and Green inks for a dirtyier look. You can then shine the areas, you want up later.

Dulcote is the king of all Varnish. I spray my mini\'s with satin Varnish first then, once dry Spray the Dulcote over the top, to take all the sheen off. When using Dullcote, shake it extremely well to stir up all the Matting Agent, if you don\'t if can leave a white residue on the mini.

P.S. The finished mini looks great.

Thanks Talion! I\'m slowly learning patience. I used to get a mini done in a few days, but this one took me a few weeks. It really makes a difference taking your time. This mini will probably get on a plane sans dulcote (unless I can get some tomorrow), but I definitley have some on hand for the next mini I paint. This whole WIP has been educational. Thanks to everyone for the advice and comments!

BaT\'s WIP (new mini 05/31)

Here\'s the mini I\'ve been working on. I really like the mini, but she may end up in the deep end of a pine-sol pool. I think she\'s coming out way too dark.

If anyone has tips regarding highlighting blues with other colors, please share! I was thinking of blue base with grassy green highlights, but I wasn\'t sure if I should actually use green or mix yellow in a little at a time to work up to a bright green.

I think I may have made a mistake trying to paint her wings after drinking mass quanities of coffee. Again, she\'s probably going to end up in the pool, but I wanted to post what I\'ve been up to.

My imaging software is no longer functional, so these are the best pics I have for right now. I\'ll mess with my lighting set up when I have time this weekend. I just got an Ott light so that should help with the illumination.

i actually just looked at it on my own software and realized the darkness levels when i saw it. i feel the skin is too dark and more of a nightcrawler look from x-men. instead i would build up with fortress gray and elf flesh. lighten those with succesive layers of white and bleached bone. i generally start out with shadow grey on something like this as my base coat though. its a nice mid tone and personally one of my favorites.

Well if you say the pics a way dark I\'m not sure if you really need any more highlights, just keep her dark as she is.
Is it just me or do you have a thing for scantly clad women/minis :D

No, it\'s not just you. The majority of the minis I have painted (or am currently working on) are tough women with big...eyes!

Here\'s the other lovely lady I\'ve been painting.

I bought some different brands of paints to try out to see what I like about one versus the other. I\'m really liking the Reaper Master paints. I am using the golden skin triad on this mini, but I\'ve only really used the shadow tone so far (except of a little bit on her hands). I also picked up one Citadel Foundation paint, but I don\'t think I\'ll have a place to use it on this one.

I still need to work on my lighting set up, but I am getting much better pics now.

blue is probably the only colour you can use white to highlight it with and get away with it. it\'s a nice looking model, so don\'t take it too bright..... keep it nice and dark. look at mystique??? x-men??? is that right? but you\'ll get it. the other one is great.

edit..... didn\'t see this page, haahaha

The eyes on the bottom one are perfect.

The dark one, I like it. The skin and wings are nice and evil looking. I think something like a lava base would counter the darkness and you could end up with something pretty cool.

I get what you\'re saying.

Mystique pic totally pilfered from IGN.com

She is dark as far as skin tones go, but my demonette started out about twice as dark as that. I think the color I used as my base should have really been my shadow, and the color I was using as my first highlight realy should have been my base.
