Hi all,
Another battle report for you all. My local store had a tournament the weekend just gone and it was super fun. I did get a little grumpy which we will get into shortly but anyway here is my battle report:
My Army: For this game we just had the one army up to 35 points (not sure why) and I was Lannisters, with the following
Mountain's Men with The Mountain (C)
Lannister Halberdiers with Assault Veteran
Lannister Guardsmen with Jamie Lannister
Lannister Guardsmen
NCU
Cersei Lannister
Tryion Lannister
Pycelle
I was reading on the forum and thought I would use 3 NCU's just to see how it works.
Game 1 - A Game Of Thrones (L)
First game was against Freefolk who I have never played against before this was my 2nd ever game and it was against a buddy of mine. Nothing much to report on I lost the game 3 points - 9. Freefolk are a massive pain they don't do a lot but they are really annoying for a couple of reasons. First of all you have to kill units more than once to get anything from them because they are insignificant, not sure I like this rule with them because it's really hard to generate tokens from them which sucks when they have so many on the board and you can move for there ranged units. Oh don't get me started on the giant that gets more powerful as you hit him and you can't block his hits. I managed to sit on a couple of points to gain some tokens which was the best I could do. By biggest attack was panic testing a unit each time with Cersei and using the crown on the NCU board. I was really frustrated with this because every time I felt like was was doing something or could do something I just got knocked back down again by a giant getting stronger or the units been insignificant.
Game 2 - A Feast For Crows (L)
Guess what Freefolk again. It was pretty much the same as last time with the freefolk sit on the points and I have got to get them off them. I managed to snag 3 points again but nothing more than that. It's safe to say that I struggled with the Lannister's against the Freefolk with my current army. After the tournament I have taken a look and I think crossbow men and pyromancers might be the way forward to mainly take the giant out from range and a few others. I think the next tournament will be a few more points and the option to have 2 lists.
Game 3 - A Clash Of Kings (W)
Woop woop, my first win. I played against the Starks and it was a great battle and this is my favourite mode over all, I really enjoyed the fact you can bring units back and continue the battle and how you can bring troops in from the side too. Really enjoyable. It was a back and forth game until around around 5 where I held all the points we pretty much when back and forth on points and there wasn't a lot in it. I managed to take a unit which allowed me to take a point and at the end of the round I had all 3 objectives which won it for me. This was the most enjoyable with it feeling like a battle and I felt like I was doing something.
Wrap Up:
Massive thanks to my local store for arranging the event and everyone was great. I got a little moody because of the Freefolk because I just couldn't do anything and when I did it didn't mean anything so what was the point. Very frustrating. I am going to buy the crossbow men and the pyromancers ready for the next tournament I think to give me something with a bit of range. I like the 3 NCU's however I am not sure if it gave me any benefit other than an extra go. It did allow me to dominate that area of the board though.
