A friend of mine sent told me about this.

Jury duty scam;

There is a scam going on now where a crook calls your home and tells you you\'re in violation of a jury duty summons. You tell them you never received a summons and they then ask for your full name, SSN, address, etc. to verify things.

People should know by now
Officials should NEVER ask for details like that over the phone, and even in person they should display ID.

If in doubt, phone the FBI or relevant agency/company yourself and check it out.

I was called for jury duty last winter, and I was very excited to serve. Instead, I sat there all morning and then everyone was excused because all cases had been settled.

Remember, never give your Social Security or National Insurance number to anyone! If they\'re important enough to need it they wont have to ask you for it.

And remember they don\'t call you to ask these things, they call you to tell you to come to court or they send a deputy sherrif to your house or work.

I got jury duty about 10 years ago, and ended up serving on 3 different cases. It was quite interesting. Every American should do it. I took the responsibility very seriously, but I also enjoyed doing it.

I hope I get called upon this time too.

I second that - I got jury duty at 19 years old. It was a very enlightening experience.

i\'ve always been on the other side of the rail... with some horrible public defender sweatin\' their ass off \'cause they think they are gonna lose another one...
nothin\' has ever stuck...i did once have to cop a plea for a three month sentence...since i speak spanish and can do tattoos, jail was a pretty mellow experience here in the states... sucks bein\' told what to do all the time by some jackass with a badge though...i don\'t recommend itlol...

Back to the origional topic.. for one I tend not to answer the phone unless I know whos calling.. love the caller ID otherwise you want to speak to me leave a message and if I fee its important Ill call back.
As for giving out ones SS number, you should only ever give or be asked for your last 4 digits..if they are legit and have you on file thats what they should ask for.

Yeah. People should know better, but sometimes they do things without thinking. We all do. I think messages like this just help remind you to not make the mistake.

Back to the jury thing, it\'s one of the two great phishing approaches, greed and fear. Oops you screwed up. Hey, wanna get rich?

There\'s a great public awareness ad on TV right now where a fellow tries to pull a 401 scam in person. It\'s so funny.

I know its common sense, but it helps to remind people.

My dad got an email from \'paypal\' asking to go to a site and change his details for security reasons.

It took me about half an hour to convince him it was fake, and the fact he doesn\'t actually have a paypal account lol

Have some sympathy, dude. It\'s an awful story. SHE figured out it was total bullsh*t, but by then, she was locked in a back room with her manager\'s psycho of a fiance who sexually assaulted her under threat of a beating. The $6 million won\'t make that un-happen. Tell me YOU responded perfectly to every weird situation you encountered as a teenager.

(The worst part is that probably 9 of 10 guys would have walked out of there with her when the caller made the first weird request, but she got the one who decided to take advantage of the situation. Not really McD\'s fault, but by law they are culpable - as is the fiance who\'s thankfully in jail now)

Um no. Even at 18 I knew that 1. My manager cant be deputized over the phone to search me, and 2. Ask to see the cop.

Yeah, she got raped - and someone is serving time for that crime - but does she deserve 6.1 million dollars because she didnt know her rights?

I agree with Steelcult. She was an idiot. No manager or superior has the right to demand a strip search. If I was accused of stealing from my job and they wanted to search me, I demand an officer to be present. If they would not get one, then I wouldn\'t let them do it.
