Here is a Beastman Lord I converted and painted for a GW Storm of Chaos painting contest.

My Beastman Lord

It didn\'t win, but that is ok, since this is the first mini I have completed after a 7 year break.

This is also my first mini here on CMON. I am hoping I can get comments on the mini and its conversions and painting and the photo itself. I would definatly appreciate any feedback at this time.

Not bad for your first mini after such a long hiatus...Honestly, I don\'t like the pink at all, but the actual painting is good. Your paint looks smooth, so all ya really need to do is go for a few more highlights, and try to blend your shading in a bit more. The piccie might be a bit small, too. It\'s a 6.0-7.0 for sure, and you\'re sure to get even better as you practice. :)

Yeah, it\'s really not that bad, just the colours are horrible. With that neon pink and phosphor green he looks like a raver.:D

And it\'s really not the best idea to paint strawberries on axes...well but if he\'s a raver then I guess it\'s okay.

OK, if the mini is not so good, post a small pick that is about actual size. If you feel you really did a good job or want some real help, post a supersize pic.

Another 100 pixels wide would not have hurt this mini. You may have had to limit to 2 views to keep the compression from killing you. This probably would have helped your scores here. Don\'t feel bad, these guys are tough judges. Golden Demons only get low 9\'s. :eek:

I can see a need for highlights on the rivites - silver on top, dark on bottom - in a frown/smile fashion.

It is hard to tell on the small pics, but it looks like it needs another layer of highlights. The current trend seems to be slightly overdone shadows and highlights (but smooth). Much as stage makeup is overdone.

I like the pink fabric. I may need a darker shadow color - not quite enough difference between shadow & highlight.

The face appears well done. That often makes a mini for me.

Even though the base is a cool game base - grass & rocks, it is not a good base for high scores here or in competition. You need a \"show\" base. preferably one that allows the mini to come out and still be a \"play\" mini. Something like this one.

Hope this helps. (I also think it is worth about a 7-7.5). Keep at it.

Something I noticed after spending a day looking at my pics, is that when I auto leveled them it killed some of the highlights. I think I am going to have to play with taking the photo more so I don\'t kill it in Photoshop. The fur for example looks very flat to me. The other thing is I prefer to highlight to aid the natural lighting on the mini. When I photographed this guy, I had 3 x 40 watt lights on him removing all the natural shadows and flatening the depth a bit.

As for display bases, I personally find a chunk of wood ugly and draws away from the mini itself. I would rather get marks for a good mini then a nice wooden base. Conversly, dioramic bases I think are fun and can definatly add to a mini, I just don\'t like spending time building them.

The crimson/magenta/pink, which has been a point of debate by everyone who has seen it, was one of those on the fly decisions. I wanted something to really stand out against the other competitors and figured the bright reddish tones would be more visable with all the other dirty reds and greens. As it turned out, it did stand out, there was only 1 Tzeentch Champion and no Slaanesh Champions just a horde of Nurgle and Khorne all dark and dirty. My Beastman could be seen from a mile away!

yeah yeah...

I agree with Trev, the pink/green works very well.

It makes the whole mini seem very unwholesome (as if being a man-goat wasn\'t enough)
