Before and After CMON

While helping newcomers to CMON with tips to improve their painting skills, I got to thinking about the question of \"what makes me qualified to give help?\" Well, the answer is I\'ve got a somewhat decent average here, but also, it\'s where I got my help and how I improved, CMON that is.

I wanted to post a \"before\" CMON and \"after\" CMON of my work to show how much of an affect this site can have with the wealth of resources and help available. I invite others to post theirs too so all the new people can see that many of us started from very humble beginnings.

Sure, I\'ve gotten alot offeedback from much more experienced members, on things like weathering and vegitation. Alot is just inspiration, and seeing what others can do and living up to their standards.

My first half timbered building, built before I started around here, and my tavern, built after I started around here.

This is a nice idea for a thread.
My attempt is actually a repaint of a mini that I painted a long time ago before a long break in painting and well before anything like CMON was available. I dug it out a couple of months back, stripped it and gave it a new look.

Only rules... both versions need to be painted by the same person (you)... and of course it has to be the same mini.

Hey Wolf, some of us never had any doubt that CMON was good for you I remember seeing your stuff get better right before my eyes (so to speak).

As for me...

Differences:
- shading
- blending
- subject matter
- imagination (I would never have thought/dared to paint a mini in greyscale, or with source-lighting, or in NMM, before I joined up here)

Sounds great! I still have a seriously old one that I took pics of, but haven\'t had the mojo to actually finish.... Hmmm.

I tend to look at em and go urgh then dump in the dip jar. But since I\'ve got a huge pile sitting in the dip jar with no dip yet, I may be able to do something.lol

Angela, I remember first seeing the Orc in Red Deer, just after you won the Toadstools with him.

Harry and I were sitting there, oggling each others\' models and generally feeling pretty good about ourselves... Then in one deft movement, you plopped Orcus Ridiculously-well-painted on the table and I think I snapped my paint brush...

Seriously, CMoN was one thing, but seeign that Orc in the proverbial flesh changed a lot of things for me as well.

Definately need a fix of hanging in your basement for an evening... Really inspiring

My improvement has been dramatic in every area, except photography.

I found CMON after accidentally finding Vikinglodge\'s website one night at work
(I was looking for information on vikings, obviously) and was pretty impressed by
what I saw on his site, then started checking out his links, and voila. Here I am.

It\'s been a couple years, a couple laughs, and a lot more educational than I ever
would have expected on that first night of peering at pictures and going \'Wow\' a lot.

So, while I\'m not posting pics, I\'ll second the sentiment of \'Thanks to everyone\'.
