Beginners Camera

Hi all,

would like some of your sagely advice.

I\'m thinking of getting a digital SLR but I\'d like some advice on what may suit my needs best as a beginner.

I will be using to take shots of minis but would also like some versatility.

Looking at a budget of around £400 but might be able to stretch to £500.

Any suggestions?

I guess you\'re looking at a Nikon D3000 or Canon 1000D. The Nikon is the best of the two I reckon. Both come with an 18-55 image stabilised lens.

You could also look on Ebay for a used 350, 400, 450D or even an old 20D. Same for Nikon\'s equivalents, but I don\'t know much about those ;)

Personally I'm just using a bog standard Nikon Coolpix 8.0MP. It's not that fantastic a camera, but it's not all that expensive, takes good quality photos, and the macro mode works. Far more important is the stand you use (I use a Flexpod, Gorillapod's great, too) and a lightbox (I use a SunPak one). Then just make sure to turn off the flash and use a timer and you're set for some great photos, even with less-than-professional cameras.
