Being disqualified from Golden Demon - what can you do and what can\'t you?

Whats wrong with having display bases? GD is a competition. That means people are going to do their best to make sure their model is noticed. I dont see display bases as unfair, because it is a competition after all, and its not like fancy bases are an underhanded tactic like tampering with other peoples models. If you think it gives other peoples models an advantage, why dont you give yourself the same advantage? It like complaining that other people are painting their models too well and it distracts the judges from your paint job! If you dont like it, dont bother entering, because if you arent willing to put in the extra something that it takes to be noticed then you dont deserve to complain when other people do and win because of it.

flashlight is 1000% correct.. i wouldnt enter a competition of any kind if i ran the risk of the judges picking my minis on the carefully paintjob and sculpwork. no way. way too much effort for them to destroy it

Trust me, this argument has come up more than once by people who feel its not fair that the best painters always win the contests and that there should be contests for below average painters so they have a chance at winning. ??????

Ultimately people will find a way to whine about something instead of trying harder.

You just have to look at guys like Albert and the rest of the Spanish Team, they took it upon them selves a couple years ago to practice hard and improve their skills and now they are kicking butt wher ever they go..:beer: Now that is an example about how to take charge of a situation.

Exactly. People either whine about it, or you realize what you have to do in order to come out on top, and you put your all into it.

P.S. - Go Spanish Team! Albert, Alfonso, Fernando, and so many others I can\'t even name have truly inspired me in the art of miniatures. The Spanish Team website is just astounding, and I\'ve taken it upon myself to sculpt my own 54mm model.

Yes, some good points, but I think it can detract from the main point, which is the mini itself.

You can end up with situations where you see a mini on a 20mm base that is 100mm tall and sticks out 50mm.

By disallowing sceneic bases and only having handling bases it is about the mini, not the mini and whether you can pay for a marble base with etched brass plaque. If you had to make the base yourself it might be differrent, but you don\'t.

hence the ravage open mix. where you can compete on you own skill level (and still i got nothing!! lol)

Even if I don\'t agree that they should be banned I can understand the controversy about scenic display bases. If you get to set the scene you get an atmosphere to the paintjob that will enhance it.

\"Handling bases\" on the other hand is another matter all together. In a similar way to Albert I\'d probably not enter a competition with any larger more complicated piece if they didn\'t allow plinths that people/judges could hold on to.
