Well just found out i\'m being made redundant again in June.

The BBC has decided to off Shore a vast mojority of their finance work to india. That\'s right, us Brit\'s will shortly be having a hike in License Fee costs, and the BBC are making 200 people redundant, to get cheaper work in india.

I used to work for the government, and you have to be prepared for redundancies, the amount of times they change their minds and, i got finally hit after 9 years service with them ...............thought it was safe in the BBC, just goes to show even, The British Broadcasting Coporation, aren\'t so British after all.

That sucks. I\'ve never understood how businesses can so easily screw people over, especially their fellow citizens, just to save a few bucks.

Here\'s hoping you bounce back soon.

Talion, I am sorry to hear of your outsoursing. It sounds like you have a decent skill set that will not let you be unemployeed long.

I work in a business that is very project oriented. At the time I start, I know the date when the project is expected to be completed. If the firm does not have another poject to go to, or I do not fit in that next project, I am on my own. I\'ve done this for almost 20 years, changed firms several times and been unemployed for one weekend. My neighbor does not understand how I can deal with it. I just ask him how he knows when it is time to change firms.

Business - a person, partnership, or corporation engaged in commerce, manufacturing, or a service; profit-seeking enterprise or concern.

The job of a business is NOT to provide for its employees. It is to make money for its owners by selling a service or a product.

Sorry to hear that. Hope you get a new job! What did you do at BBC?

I Audit and release payment of BBC Staff claims. Basically they buy all the prop\'s for any productions and we then audit them to ensure they fit to BBC policy and then either release the payment, or reject it.

I\'m not so much annoyed at being made redundant........I can do temporary work until i find a new job.

What I am annoyed about is how a British public funded organisation can take it\'s work outside of the UK.

A private business i can understand it\'s their money to do with how they want, but when me \"Jo Public\" is paying the BBC to give my job to another country..........it\'s not on.

Ouch.

Yeah, it makes not one lick of sense, but thats the way it works sometimes.

Course, this may make you feel a bit better - a lot of the American Companies that offshored to India are now bringing their business back to the states - seems that Indian English is not American English.lol

That truly is shit mate, I used to work for an internet bank that done the same thing, but shifted it to Spain, and jumped ship before this happened. I know that it happens to many banks, as the call centres are just dirt cheap to run out in india. Where you would have to pay a customer service agent £14k a year in the uk, in India the wage would be £4k.

I also live in Coventry, and the whole local economy has been hit bad with the closure of Peugeot and Jaguar car plants.many hundreds lost their jobs, which means they don\'t have money to spend in local business\'.

At least with the banks you had the choice to move your account elsewhere, with the BBC you have to pay your TV license if you own a TV wether or not you watch the BBC channels or not!

Hope something sorts itself out soon, I always feel these type of things sometimes happen for a reason, so maybe something bigger and better is out there with your name on it.
