Best and Worst 2012

Now that 2012 is on its last legs, it is time to look back at all the good and bad things that has befallen us over the year. Post what you think was the low and highpoints of the year in hobby/painting/gaming.

Worst:

• 6 ed 40k. Horribly outdated and clunky rules. Massive disapointment.
• Many of the bigstuff GW plastik kits. Well engineered, but poorly designed. Chaos Warshrine and Helldrake being the 2 worst.
• GW's prices.

Best:

• Mountain king. MOUNTAIN KIIING!!!!!!
• The other PP collosals and gargantuans.
• FW Horus Heresy: Betrayal. Best Gaming Book Of All Time!!

I don't play 40k but, a lot of the guys at my lgs like 6th edition more then 5th.

As far as mountain king goes the trollbloods community like the model but are unhappy with the stats and point cost. They will be even more unhappy if what the skorne players think they are getting turns out to be true.

missing golden daemon Japan due to being in the wrong country
ever increasing workload in my job

My son being born
6th ed 40k reinvigorating my interest in the game
kickstarters (I just think these are a godsend for small mini producers, if handled properly)
Making and eating the Best Fajitas Ever.

Too Many Kickstarters!
The abysmal return rate for Finecast
GW pricing going from ridiculous to ludicrous speed!

Best:
The awesome people of the CMON community
Too Many Kickstarters!
My gamble on ordering Finecast online paid off and I scored three nearly flawless minis!

Best:
Sedition Wars / Kingdom Death, Kickstarter success.
Great new miniature releases from amazingly talented miniature artist/sculptor Sebastion Archer (Guild Of Harmony).
Sent a free collectable original Rackham miniature unconditionally to a guy in China as my offering to the gods of karma.
Marike Reimer's new DVD tutorial. I haven't bought it yet, but I've managed to sell the idea of using my girlfriend's credit card to purchase it to my beautiful girlfriend!
I actually completed 2 display miniatures this year. Wow!
I learned the virtue of brevity and chose not to rant silliness and my opinions into the CMoN forums. Well for the most part anyway...


Worst:
Arjay didn't enter in the 2012 Oz Gamesday!!! Argh ~ he'll win it next year for sure!
Bobby Wong, Cyril Abati and Arjay didn't post any painted minis here at CMoN this year! Excuse me while I cry
GW finecast minis still BLOW!
Still have 2 miniatures gathering dust on my table that need finishing before the end of the year! I'll get 'em finished!!!
Still haven't found any person to sell me some 90's "Beakie" Space Marine plastic sprues! Please somebody!
GW changed there paint line! Man I want the old paints back!


Okay ~ there's certainly more that I would like to add, but this is enough for now.

Best of 2012:
I actually got a holiday!
I've managed to get two large modelling & painting projects done that I'm actually happy with
I made enough money with Quidco to start a Horus Heresy army
Met up with lots of friends


Worst of 2012:
It's gone far too quickly :/
My bosses have royally taken the micky with how much I'm expected to work
I'm going to have to work like a loonatic for the first two months next year to get a project finished that I'm now behind on
Not enough time for painting
Could do with more money!

Worst of 2012:
GW Price Hike...(Like I buy GW stuff anymore?)
Seeing a friend slowly collapse under the strain of looking after his father who has Alzhiemers (*)
Having to tell my own father I had Prostate Cancer. (Weren't no easy or nice way to do that!)
Side effects of Radiotherapy!!!!!!!!!!!!

(* Persuading my friend to give in and take extended sick leave while he arranged respite care for his Father.)

Best:
-Finally being free to paint what I want, I got my lust for painting back.
-Got some other old painters interested painting again
-Back to painting regularly every Thursday with friends
-Bought some lovely new minis.

Worst:
-A draining episode that I don't have the energy to elaborate on, involving debt and miniatures.
-Not enough time for painting.
-Finecast still not up for it and still maintaining a ridiculous price.

Best:
- Having two amazing trips to Madagascar and Zimbabwe
- Painting Cang the Implacable and finishing off my Kaladrax Reborn sculpt plus a little manticore model from Raging Heroes.

Worst:
- forgetting how to paint properly
-some integrity issues with Kaladrax- which I think I have now resolved.
- work being sucky in terms of some pay and grading issues that still haven't been resolved.

Saying goodbye to my Mother and Eloise's Father both in August - actually the worst time of my life.

Best
Catching up with good friends at Salute and Euro.
Knowing many of my minis are now being enjoyed by new owners.
Keeping up with everyone on the forums here.
Being the target of amazing generosity from forum members here.
