yeh Fier, I\'d fish around and try out the different brands to see what you like first. Everyone has different styles.

Oh, and congrats on the first 100 Taer :)

GW, simply because friends gave me them back when I started 18 years ago. I still have paints from back then going strong today, I find I don\'t use much paint.

Only others I\'ve tried are Humbrol enamels and acrylics and Tamyia. I prefer the GW ones.

I\'ve been liking the Reaper paints (of course, I\'m a Reaper FanGirl) and they will soon be coming out with a Master Class of paint that will come in Vallejo-style dropper bottles.

Now, some Reaper paints can be gritty or chalky, but they are quite matte when applied.

Another thing, I like their pots. The lids seal well and they don\'t leak. One problem I\'ve had with the dropper bottles is the paint leaks into the cap when I shake them up.

Also, Reaper comes with agitators, something Vallejo doesn\'t have. The added bonus of the agitators is they\'re little skulls, useful for basing when the pot is empty. lol

Oh, very cool! If only I\'d known all this good stuff when I lived right near them :(

I\'d buy them for that alone. The idea of agitators is excellent, but skulls....genius:bouncy:

don\'t fear the Reaper...

I always wanted to try the Reaper Paints, but just never ordered them. I always thought the fact that in the product description (on their website) proudly declares \"gruesome severed head-shaped agitator in every bottle\" was very groundbreaking....

WOAH! COOL!

They should have different kinds for each color, so you have to collect them all. All they need now are tops that are usable as bases, pots that fold into some kind of sculpting apparatus, and paint that\'s also a primer. Now that paint would kick major ass. And by major i mean a lot.

Those are some pretty good ideas! I especially like the usable top thought. Maybe start your own line of paints, Lobster-Brand or something......You could make a fortune! That would kick a lot of a$$. And by a lot I mean major!! lollollol

Only in the world of miniatures could a company get away with that type of tag line and receive praise.....

Imagine Heinz Ketchup having a slogan like \"looks like blood on your weiner\" or the pickle relish saying \"Now, with the texture of vomit!\"

Just doesn\'t work any place else....

I might be a retard, but for some of my basic colors like Black, White, and Brown, I use Delta Ceramacoat.. You can get these at Walmart.. They do the trick for simple colours, but I usually use GW for any other color... I tried Reaper, but it seems that their paint was pretty darn thin, and the black ink I used left a horrid shine on the model. Thats just my experience though..

The Reaper inks leave a shine because they are actual Printer\'s Inks (this comes from Anne Foerster, Resident Reaper Paint Goddess). Testors dullcoat gets rid of the shine.

As for the thinness of Reaper paints, I haven\'t found that at all. I tend to thin them a lot (one part paint, three parts flow improver, two or three parts extender, one part water) in order to get some good blending on my layers. Anne doesn\'t thin hers as much as I do, but she does go pretty thin.

Dude, major totally doesn\'t go both ways man, it just doesnt work.

Starting my own line would be very cool, Lobster-brand sounds great! I\'d be sure to make the paints taste good, that way licking your brush wouldn\'t give you a nasty aftertaste.

I love the pigmentation on Vallejo, but I seem to get a lot of chipping and peeling from Vallejo paints. Is it just me or do other people experience the same problem?

I have noticed something similar....

About the Vallejo Paints peeling off...

I know the first few times I used the paint I did have a similar problem. Actually all the paint just peeled off a particular area, and I didn\'t know exactly why.

I haven\'t experienced the problem since, but I do things a little differently now.

At first I thought it was because I didn\'t properly clean the mini, so since then I have taking alot of time to \'wash and dry\' my miniatures before priming them.

Another thing I did was to shake the heck out of the Vallejo bottles before I used them. Not just a typical shake, but a vigorous shaking for about a minute.

The last thing was that after I finished a major area, i would give the mini a quick blast of matte varnish.

I am not sure which of those things I did helped, but I haven\'t had the trouble since.

Ok , I\'m pretty new to this , just like to say the few pots of GW are nowhere near the amount I should have . I was about to post a similar thread on \"what are the best paints \" until I saw this . One thing I dont like with these pots of GW paints is , if they have been left a while , you need to be Conan to remove the tops :p . On to my question . After christmas I am going to splash out on a set of paints ( a full set ) so , money willing , what set would you buy ?

Oh and how do you put your location in your profile , for the life of me I cannot seem to get it in .

Thanks

Personal preference again...

There is no overall \'best\'. Vallejo have better bottles, most people seem to agree on that. If I were in your shoes, I would buy a couple of bottles of each and determine your own preference by using them to paint one particular mini. You want to be sure, because a whole set is a big commitment. Vallejo do smaller sets you can experiment with from their \'colour\' range...?
