I am going to be starting a new D&D D20 Campaign and was wondering if any one could tell me some pre-made modules that they have been through or know of that are really good. I\'m really looking for a whole set that would all work together to get characters from 1st through at least 15th level. I\'m really hoping for something with a really good story line. Any body have any good suggestions.

Personally, I don\'t much like modules. They\'re far too linear for the group I play with.
Trying to steer them through an adventure is like standing in front of a freight train with no brakes and thinking you can stop it by gesturing emphatically.

My suggestion is pick a few monsters, give them stats and treasure, and come up with a few \'tags\' to draw them in, and let them figure it out.

The Mercenary Bulletin Board is usually a good way to go about giving them options.

\'Wanted: Varadian Balthazar - For 14 murders, theft of Royal Property, poaching\' and scrawled beneath that by some wag \'And 42 counts of bad table manners\'.

\'Caravan needs guards - inquire at south gate\'

Etc. etc.

But that\'s just me.

Thanks that\'s a pretty good idea I had never thought of. I have some ideas already but was kind of wanting to incorporate my ideas in to an already built module set. Does any one else out there have any ideas?

Give them some low level self made level builders then stick them in the G series or giant series. Just convert it from the old AD&D one. Wow- you level like a mother or die fast in that one!!

I would actually buy a number of pre-made modules and work them into a background of your choosing. That\'s the best of both worlds. You\'ve got a bunch of \'ready-to-go\' modules AND you can have a background with some encounters for the area if they want to do their own thing.

Our DM used to scoff and turn his nose up at the pre-generated modules - until we (Grumb and I) bought him a couple and now he loves them. (Granted we all have kids and limited time these days!)

Anyway, our \"group\" is based in a town and we have people ask for our help. So, the DM (in the guise of numerous townfolk) gives us our choice of a number of different quests and we choose which one we want to do. When (if!) we survive it, we come back to town, get paid, (get experience), and then get our choice of the next quest.

We play about once a month and it takes us two to three months to finish a quest.

The good thing about doing it this way is that no matter what we decide he\'s got the module ready to go. If we go and decide to just go cross-country (and not follow his module) he\'s already got a background, etc. and can improvise. (This hasn\'t happened yet. We\'ve been gaming for 15+ years and are enjoying just doing our quests, surviving, and getting paid!)

If I were you, I\'d send a pm (U2U private message) to DMofDoom here on CMON. He\'s run games before including an on-line one that a bunch of us CMORs play.

Good luck!!

Well, well, Dawn, I am flattered!
But if you want my 2c worth:
Skip 1st and 2nd level. The characters die too easy and character creation can eat up game time. Plus it sucks if you are the player. I normally start characters off at 3rd level, but with 0 xp. Yes that means that they have to gain 3000 xp before they get to gain a level, but they get 2 VITAL hit dice and a feat to help them do it.

But I just realized that that wasn\'t really your question, but rather my own interposed opinion. Hmmmm...???

I hear that the Temple of Elemental Evil is good for getting characters from low to high level, as well as the World\'s Largest Dungeon, though I admittedly have never ran or read through either.

Dragon magazine is an excellent resource, and often they have story arcs, or adventures with linked storylines, that go for several issues/levels.

Hopefully, that helps.

Please leave an EL7 treasure in my inbox as payment....lol

An alternative to starting at a higher level, if you don\'t like that idea:

Come up with adventures that are a little more RP and character development based, with only a couple of small fights against some really easy monsters, and XP bonuses for achieving goals, like maybe solving a murder.

:cool:poetry- level 3 but 0 xp.
And, Dragon/dungeon(even better) mag- took the words outta my mouth.
You can pretty much find old modules that can be converted to d20 fast without going out to have to buy new ones too.

Darn! I had intended on putting it in my post above, but spaced out....
Feel free to join us in the :bouncy: new :bouncy: Role Playing section of the forums! (You have to scroll all the way to the bottom of the main page to find it, but we likes it there in the dungeon...) :D
