Best ever video game?

Hmm, I haven\'t played many games for a few years so a lot of those mentioned I couldn\'t comment on. When I was playing bloodbowl online I played the odd game that my computer could run. I played Pokemon Emerald, which was quite addictive for a while, but I could only play single-player as it was a version done for the PC, not official (shh! don\'t tell anybody). I also played Dungeon Hack. I agree with Gilvan, crap graphics but still enjoyable.

However, I\'ve not played any actual games since Diablo II, which is quite addictive for online play but gets repetitive.

I really enjoyed Age of Empires II, that\'s one of my favourites.

Championship Manager was great if you like that sort of game.

I played a lot of fighting games at uni, as housemates had playstations. The best of the bunch was Soul Calibur; but of course Streetfighter II cannot be ignored.

I also feel a special mention should go to Worms II, which was fun and you could have 8 players on the same computer.

The Sims (I personally haven\'t played, but any game that can unite so many different types of people must be doing something right.)
and Mortal Kombat always fun if just for the finishing moves.

I am a \'first generation\' video gamer, so I\'ve been around them for some time.

I remember PONG quite vividly, and to be honest the last few computer upgrades I went through were almost strictly for games.

My \'favorites\' are usually in the current crop of games....(currently Call of Duty 4) but, here\'s a list of games that left an indelible mark on me.

Atari 2600\'s Combat. Terribly pixelated blobs of tanks shooting similar ones....for a kid, amazingly fun.

Nintendo\'s...Tecmo Bowl. American Football with \'real\' players and teams. I used to actually keep player stats on this, and had a whole notebook devoted to it.

Sega Genesis Herzog Zwei. This was RTS before there was even a genre for it. I spent countless hours building defensive bases.

Doom 2. It was because of this game I had to learn how to configure modems, make boot disks, and allocate system memory. Playing cooperatively against that giant Cyber-demon was incredible!

TIE FIGHTER...excellent flight sim with amazing scope....I began rooting for the Empire after this game.

Freespace...Tie Fighter on steroids. So intense.

Warcraft--Starcraft series. Best RTS games ever...

Half life-Half life 2. Doom may have been the beginner of the FPS, but the Half Life Series perfected it....You \'become\' this character.

Deus Ex...>Take the best from FPS and mix it with a RPG game...gritty storyline, great fun. I loved it because there were always more than one way to solve a problem...it left it up to you to figure it out.

Halo series...not so much the game play (some of it was rather repetitive)..but the creation of the whole story line and the seeimingly gigantic levels.

But, I\'m leaving so many out of the mix...just these have really \'grabbed my attention\'.

My last thing is to say that the \'console\' games have finally equalled themselves to the PC Gaming experience. (and surpassed it in many respects). That has been the latest big change for me...I hardly touch PC games now...all Xbox 360.

And Pong?!? Classic! Mother of all! Had the original consul for that. 4 games, hours of fun!

And while I\'m thinking of it, Oregon Trail (Apple 2e) Let\'s face it, any game that gets teachers to let you play it, for the learning experience rocks! hehe

final fantasy 7 by far..... it is quite possibly the most entertaining game i have ever played.....a game that i put over 99 hours into, lost a girlfriend over, answered the door in my underwear to get a pizza while play ing the game. bought the role-playing control to play it one handed and finally i actually cried when aerith died.

no other game has made me cry before.

that is how immersive the game was and is to this day.

How could I forget Doom?! When I played doom 3 it brought it all back, that terrified feeling you get when the lights go out and all you have is a crappy little pistol and a flashlight lol
Star Wars Galaxies was the best MMO I\'d played, until they screwed it up. moved over for FF online...Now theres a new xpansion with new jobs and stuff coming out and I barely lvld the other ones lol

Tie fighter and X-wing were fantastic too, good call Vikey! I have to say it WAS fun doing it for the empire! all that secret circle stuff..wooo

Halflife is \"meh\" I have HL2 played it for maybe an hour and got bored lol. I DID play CSS though. That was class as far as sneaky on guard fps goes! You don\'t need to shoot someone 30 times to kill em. And you can (as I found out) empty a 100 round box of ammo and hit nothing lol

Deus ex, good call. Deus ex 2 was interesting too, not half as good as the original though.

this is possible the most amazing RPG i\'ve played though; \"Knights of the old republic\" and the 2nd title. More twists and turns than a whelks arse , complete control of all your decisions...and in the SW universe! Cracking stuff, can\'t wait for the new one 0.0

If any of you do play BF 2142, add me! I\'m Vulf. Games are always better with people you know lol, dunno why.

Street Fighter 2 on the SNES, spent hours until eventually beating it on the hardest setting and the highest speed

MarioKart on the SNES, battle mode was the best thing ever

Goldeneye on the N64 holds some great memories of nights round mates flats getting wasted and playing 1 hit kills pistols.

On the PC it is all about the Half Life series for me.
Half Life I loved and then started playing Team Fortress Classic online and became rapidly addicted.
Half Life 2 is great too, and now Fortress Forever has pulled me back into the online gaming again

Deus Ex was amazing, absolutely immersed in it for weeks, trying to play through it without killing anyone was so hard, and so fun!

I\'m loving Oblivion on the PS3 at the moment.

For me, the Amiga was the zenith of gaming as well as a lot of other things really... just the vast choice of games and developers at the time was crazy. Companies like Psygnosis churning out great title after great title. A lot of genres were created then.

Some of my favs are below in no real order.

Elite - BBC Micro - My first proper gaming experience and now a legend.

IK+ - Amiga - insane speed, endless 2 or 3 way fun and pressing the [T] key pulled your opponents trousers down... how many games boast that special move?

Lemmings - Amiga - Genius... the trick was to save the minimum lemmings and find interesting ways to slaughter the remainder.

Unreal tournament - PC - The best small LAN party games I have ever had involved non-stop friday afternoon to monday morning head shots.

Diablo & Diablo II - PC - for maximum wear and tear on your mouse.

Xenon II - Amiga - Vertical scroll shoot \'em up with great music and loads of weapons. great!

Elite on the commodore 64. Now you may think I jest, but I do not. Till this day I have still not come across a game that has engrossed me as much as this one did.

It was one of the first home computer games to use wireframe 3D graphics and was unique for its time as it was open ended meaning you could continue to play it for as long as you wanted.

*edit* just realised you played it Squidders. Top quality game that was the first \'real\' game for many players.

Yeah, I almost put these on my list. For pure hours played they deserve a place, but I just can\'t really class them as good games. some of my faves are, civ 2, settlers, pro evo and sensible soccer, gran turismo, bmx simulator for the c16, frontier on the amiga, also wasted many an hour on mortal konbat 2 and mario kart. plus as a former arcade employee lots of free games on ridge racer, virtua cop and oldies like spy hunter and outrun and the virtua fighter and tekken series

Perhaps you\'d be interested in this. They\'re reverse engineering the SWG engine back to pre-CU. Anyone with a Sony version of the game can play thier current build and wander arround Tatooine. They\'ve yet to add creatures and NPCs however so there isnt much to do yet, though they are doing the final tweaks on the Jump to Lightspeed content :drool:
