Not really. :D I was thinking more about the comfort of being able to sit with some good music in the headphones and read/draw/paint without having constant pain in the temples from the legs.

Air defence mechanisms are pretty much as it sounds, the things the ears do to protect themselves.

The channel of the ear can shrink itself to lessen sound coming in at high volumes, in ear ear phones stop this working as well.

But Im of the line of thought that headphones are for checking sound qaulity while mixing, or listening when you cant have a massive pair of speakers in front of you, which should be all the time if your that serious about your sound.

Ipods are toys, and nothing worth spending money on if you seriously have a desire to listen to something nice, the mp3 format destroys music.

To be honest, having a great big pair of headphones plugged into a tiny lump of plastic that cost half the price is a waste of time, buy a cheap pair, the difference is nothing, and if it gets nicked, its no great loss.

Oh yeah, the other two cents worth, if you want real qaulity, go and find a floating glass plate record player, lynn fosdeck or similar comes to mind, get a large tube amp, and speakerswith a 4 way split, with at least a 10 inch bottom end.

That, is clarity, as long as you can have it at a decent level.

Mind, that possibly wont work with a lot of modern digitally recorded stuff, but then, modern musics shite anyway :p

Interesting on that point, the title track of let there be rock was recorded with angus\' marshall head on fire from overheating......

Actually the apple lossless is damn good for quality, iPods are totally not toys so dismissing them because they play mp3 files is a little petulant.

My name is Joe and my speakers are Linn, my amplification is Naim, my source is Michell engineering, my interconnects are nordost and my speaker cables are qed...

My choice of music on the move iPod :moon:

mp3 is a compression format, after that, its detail, anything that compresses the entire file is bad.

Real simple.

And an ipod is a toy, cause it sure as hell aint a serious piece of sound equipment, its aimed at every day joe blogs on the street, not at professionals.

you\'re right - mp3 is a compression format... good job I wasn\'t talking about mp3 isn\'t it. Nice try ;)

And the fact that they are aimed at consumers is a good thing... professional dj\'s don\'t use £7000 Nottingham Analogue Anna Log Turntables, no, they use £350 Technics 1210 turntables.

Professional taxi/mini cab drivers don\'t drive Bentley Azures.

The fact of the matter is that if you love music enough to want it on the move you\'re going to need a player than can do that and you\'re also going to need headphones (as was the subject of this thread).
