Best Matt Acrylic Varnish

Hi Guys,

I'm looking for the best matt acrylic varnish out there. I've tried a couple (Vallajo and Xtracolour) and they're both coming out what I'd call satin rather than matt. I'm looking for something that is really very matt.

Any advice?

Cheers!

My favorite is from Lascaux. Very nicely matte and UV resistant too.

That said, a lot depends on the application. Apply any matte varnish too thickly or over a wet previous coat, and it'll turn satiny.

Cheers for your comments. On the off chance whilst I was in town this morning I pocked up a bottle of Daler Rowney Soluble Varnish Matt. I tell you that stuff is incredible, it sucks the light out of the air. Sorry, in other words it's extremely matt!

I'll have to look up Lascaux, not heard of that one before.

Agree - I use the Daler Rowney Matt Varnish too and love it for its absolutely matt finish. If you have it sitting around for a while, remember to give the bottle a good shake before applying.
