Best overall WH range?

I\'m having a tough time to stay at one army because most ranges have at least a few awesome miniatures, but I still want to make an army, though it is only just for display.

So, mini-wise only, what do you think which Warhammer range has the best miniatures overall?

I\'d say that Wood Elves or Dwarves have the nicest overall....but in fact, most armies have a nice range of minis, so it\'s a toughie. ;)

For me its Orks theres just so much you can do with them. Loads of room for conversion, you\'ve got a Wyvern, giant, trolls, funky war machines and my fav at the moment the funkyness of spider riders. And last but not least the fantasticly fun fanatics there a blast to build up!!

It\'s a real toughie and all boils down to personal preference. IMHO most armies have their good and bad figs. Being more of a gamer, here\'s a run down of the armies that I\'ve built up over time with some thoughts;
Dark Elves - some great figures let down by lack of character in the rank and file.
Skaven - can be a bit \'samey\' but do possess some real character and humour.
Beastmen - Probably my favourite. Champions and characters have a really evil feral feel and are dynamic.
High Elves - Some nice characters and units let down by static nature of figures.
Orcs and Goblins - masses of character and some cracking figures to choose from by way of champions and shamans in particular.
Lizardmen - Can be a bit sterile and not a lover of the updated ones although the skink champions are v. nice.

I\'m not a lover of plastic minis, preferring the \'feel\' of metal. There was an article in UK WD a few issues ago where Gareth Hamilton put together a kind of ragtag Empire army using current figures, Mordheim minis plus odd ones from other races. T\'were right lovely and is something I\'d like to do one day (time and finances permitting lol)

Depends how much you want to spend as well. If you go for horde army like skaven or orcs gonna burn your wallet more, so do as I do and hit eBay with a snipe tool like Gixen. Built large Skaven army 6 x clanrats unit (4 plastic 2 metal), 8 rat ogres (50:50 metal/plastic), 24 rats, WL Cannon, 2 Plastic PMOnks 1 Metal P Monks, 90% of special characters, 2 metal slave units, Screaming Bell OOP One, Plague Censors x 12, Globadiers x 12, 4 assasins, Stormvermi Unit (Classic one), 5 Ratling Guns, 5 Warp Fire Throwers, 12 Gutter Runners, 12 Night Runners, 4 x Jezzails from 75% eBay - cost about £125 and some of the best classic models. Total model count c.275-300 figures excluding big items

Just Gotta paint the things now

I personnally love Dark Elves and am re-doing mine with modern and old Marauder figures and selling of 80\'s stuff.

Next for me is Chaos as less models to get and quite forgiving in battle and love all the fluff

if your not gaming in gw stores or gw tournaments then get a dogs of war army from foundry.

if your intending to play in gw stores then have a look at the ranges and find a range which you like the most.

i like wood elves and orcs and goblins.

i feel the dwarves lost a lot of their character with the newer release however.

favorite that they have though is beastmen. they have some amazingly beautiful sculpts there.

i would do an army of them next but i am done with dark flesh after all the tau i have painted.

:)

chaos... tzeench I went with because of the painting you can mis match and color to your hearts content. but the wood elves are nice the faces are a pain and the have many fiddly bits to paint on the models.
The dogs of war idea was a good one also
