Hello everyone.
This is my first post on the forum, although I've been lurking for a while now. I'm a keen painter (although I wouldn't consider myself very good yet) and have been painting on and off over about 15 years.
I am currently painting a figure for the Japanese Fantasy game Bushido, and I wish to get a graduated stripe effect much like the one on the left in this picture (although I'm planning on purple and white):

I was planning on painting the white normally, doing all the shading and highlights, and then tinting the purple stripes with a glaze on top of this. I have never got the hang of wet blending, but I hope that I use enough really thin layers that it will achieve the same effect.
Does anyone have any experience of painting something like this, and do you think my plan will work?
Thank you.
