Best tutorial for smooth paint job?!

So, I consider myself a fairly good painter but I'd like to improve. Everytime I find videos on youtube and such of a good paint job it seems like they skip so many steps.

What I am looking for is a clear, step by step tutorial of a smooth model. Even if the tutorial is for 1 color on 1 model I would be happy. I want to know what techniques they used to blend their colors really well, how many hours they spend on the color, how many coats and different paints they use, etc.

Can anyone help me find that?!

Thanks

I advise you to have a look at miniature mentors videos which are one of the best to have tried few of them. You have the first video from laurent esposito which is quite complete and a really good introduction to layering technique. After you have the video from ben komet about wet blending which i found really helpful... The only problem compared to youtube is that you have to pay but you will learn quite a lot with these two videos about smooth paint job.
Happy painting!!!

Although there must be a bajillion answers to this, one that has stuck in my head is a guide by Ali McVey; it begins properly about 1/2 way down the first page but ya might as well start at the beginning.

Although you don't get to see brush strokes with a text-and-pic guide it should do what you want - it is very step-by-step

Edit: Okay there actually are a bunch of videos as well. Huzzah!

If your looking for a clear tutorial, showing everything from beginning to end and you want a smooth finish... I would recommend an airbrush and Awesomepaintjob on YouTube. It's not going to cover advanced blending/layering or the French style glaze painting but it will get you what you want in a short period of time, plus there's many to choose from.

even if you have to pay, I'd also recommend the MMentor videos. Quite simply they are worth their price (except 1 or 2). For smooth blending I'd get the following:
01 - Wolfen OR 02 - Advanced one (the painter is the same, so these 2 vids are pretty much the same, I'd say go with the Wolfen one, show a lot more stuff) --> lots and lots of glazes, so many you'll go mad :)
23 - Plaguenaught (and maybe 22 - Bases from same painter) --> completely different technique, wet-in-wet first, then refine with glazes

Youtube vids:
The middle few(Around the Deathguard SM and DarkEldar) from Awesomepaintjob are good, but the last few(Deathwing, Mangler Warjack) he made are worse in quality. And to be completely honest I'm not really convinced on way he uses Airbrush (it's good for a general lighting as a base, but that's all)
I'd rather recommend the "buypainted" channel. Here the aim is about TTQ+(++), but the way he handles the Airbrush is much better, more precise.

And if you are looking for free blending vids:
- youtube: raginggaijin's vid was the first I saw, that got me started
- the following from www.figurines-tv.com are good, but all are in french/spanish, so you have to learn by seeing it if you don't speak the language: Rhymaiss Base (JBT) , Blending Skin (Mathieu Lalain), Blending with Acrylics (JBT), Preshading Tapioka (JBT) and there are 2 vids lately that show painting skin/face that are available from their shop for free in HD (one with Marion Ball and the other from Pepa Saavedra with an airbrush)
